Before The Little Mermaid Platinum Edition was released Ariel didn't have much attention, she mostly had summer merchandise in the Princess line (Like swimsuits, beach toys, sunscreens and etc.) but after the Platinum Edition she's now one of the Princesses that gets most attention?.

It's probably because the younger generation really didn't know of her until that dvd release and now they like her the most, therefore, more merchandise...just fine with me

Omg. that is a great thing that you have said. Maybe like all the little kids that weren't born then propbably didn't know much of Ariel till the DVD came out then they saw it and loves it. So I argree with saiyansilk said thats just fine with me.

Actually, I would have to disagree, mainly because Ariel isn't on most of the Disney Princess merchendise. I can count tons that I've seen that Ariel isn't on. I would go as far to say that they are trying to push her off to the side.

no, i have to disagree. She is the princess that gets the most merchandise to just herself. They have to put more than one of the other princesses on all the other merchandise to make it worth purchasing.

Most of TLM stuff I own is from long before the Platinum DVD. Ariel has always been very popular. When the movie first came out she became the biggest selling cartoon character since Mickey Mouse.

I do agree with random prince. She has been popular since her introduction.

Maybe when they use a few Princesses together they use Cinderella,Aurora and Belle but alone Ariel gets most of the merchandise, here's an example-Last year's back to school supplies (Not this year, this year there were very rare Princess products) Ariel was the only Princess to have her own things like pencil cases and school bags,Cinderella,Aurora and Belle were together. Random Prince-I know Ariel is very popular, even before the Princess line but about being the biggest selling character since Mickey Mouse, what about characters like Winnie The Pooh and TinkerBell? weren't they always popular just as Mickey Mouse?.

They still do neglect her from the Princess line, more so than the other ones. Maybe that's because she is the only one that has her own merchendise.

Neglect? Ariel? she's the Princess with most merchandise. There are some merchandise were you don't see Snow White or Jasmine and many that you don't see Mulan or Pocahontas but there are very rare ones without Ariel on them.

I meant from the 'Disney Princess' line/merchendise, not her entire merchendise. She isn't on most of the Disney Princess Merchendise. Her and Jasmine are the ones that aren't on a lot of them.

I"m talking about the Princess line, you can see lots of things without Jasmine or Mulan on them but very rare things without Ariel on them. Anyway I disagree with you and think that you can see Ariel in almost ALL the Princess merchandise, unlike Jasmine or Pocahontas. Here's an explame-The Simba Toys dolls, when they have new collection of dolls it's always Aurora,Cinderella,Snow White and Ariel. About the little kids-The thing is that little girls don't care about the films and never saw them, they only like the Princesses with the most prettiest dress,Aurora,Cinderella and Belle have the most glamours dresses and that's one of the reasons why they"re so popular,Ariel is super glamours because especially because she's a mermaid,Snow White is simple for them and Jasmine is very pretty,I"m pretty sure that Tiana will be very popular and I think that Giselle whould have been very popular and might even replace Belle when it's always Aurora,Cindy and Belle but Disney don't market her enough. Disney had an huge promotion for the PE and they noticed she's very popular and sell well so she's getting so much attention. Also all the Ariel were celebrating when the PE was released.

I don't see what all the fuss is about with Giselle. Enchanted was a good movie and she served her purpose in the story, but as a character she's literally just a big joke.

Why big joke? I think she's a really great character and I really loved the movie. She's a new Princess showing a new world and a new story,Andalasia is a very magical place. If you think that she's just spoffing the Princesses then it's not true, she's one of them and if they did made a little fun of the other Princesses they"re still respecting them,it's not mockery like Shrek.

I think she's a complete spoof of the whole Disney Princess thing, but there's nothing wrong with that. I'm just saying, the personality they created for Ariel (and arguably some of the other female lead characters to an extent) goes above and beyond the story told in the original movie, while Giselle seems to have been designed as a simple component within that one, specific story. Again, that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's just that Ariel's character lends itself to hundreds of stories and spin-offs because of it's depth, complexity and substance. Unfortunately, these days that potential to be exploited seems to be a very bad thing!

I never thought she was. BTW, I liked Enchanted, even though Giselle IS the perfect example of generic Princess.

You mean that you don't think they can make something more stories about Giselle unlike the other Princesses? or something like that? well,I think they can, they can make stories about her life in Andalasia, they already made a GBA prequel game about sometime where evil spirits creats bad spell on Andalasia and it's up to Giselle to save the day,Belle doesn't look like they can make more stories about her but they do (Because they make it looks like she was years in that castle and in the film it looks like a few weeks),Disney make stories for almost every movie, althought you do have a point that too many stories isn't really a good thing like Ariel has too many stories. I"m talking about the Princess line, you can see lots of things without Jasmine or Mulan on them but very rare things without Ariel on them. Yeah, next time you go to a toy store try to see how many Princess merchandise has Ariel on them and you might see more then you thought. Yeah, she,Pocahontas,Giselle and Mulan are official Princesses with the main six and there's also 2 or 3 (If you count Merida from Pixar's The Bear And The Bow but I hope that she won't be there, she's Pixar) upcoming ones. I"m glad to hear that you like Enchanted too what do you mean she's a generic Princess thought?.

Here's my definition of a Generic Princess; Someone who is only capable of wearing poofy, sparkle, glitter dresses, who lacks any form of personality or emotion (other than being extremely happy ALL THE TIME), or basically All the Disney "Princess" merchandise that you see out in stores currently.
