I will be celebrating my 30th birthday at WDW. Ahhhhhh! We are going. OMG. We, meaning, my best friend of almost 15 years and myself. we are staying at port orleans - riverside This will be my first visit. First visit plane ride in almost 20+ years(I was too young to remember any previous trips). First time being more than a 6 hour drive from home (farthest i've been is vegas). I cannot wait. Any advice for a first timer? OMG we are going. I feel like a little kid and I will be 30 in just a few months. That's what Disney does to us I guess huh. Whooo hooo! Now, to find a nice countdown clock.

I can't really give you advice, since I've never been to a Disney themed park, but I will give my congrats, and hope that you have a great time.
However, I can give you an airplane tip, when it starts to descent from the sky, try not to have the noise clog your ears. It did for me when I went to Hawaii in 2005. I could barely hear anything for about a whole day.

I would like to have a full experience at WDW.

I get that problem too--I think it's more from the air-pressure changes than the noise of the plane, though. Chewing gum works, as does yawning if you don't have any gum. You look a bit strange with your mouth constantly open, but it's better than painful pressure changes.
I had clogged ears for the first bit of my last WDW trip (very long ago), and it was really painful. I had no problem on the plane rides last summer, but I had to yawn constantly. Some people aren't affected by it, but others are. I think as long as you yawn/chew gum as soon as your ears feel the pressure, it's not an issue.

Yeah, I heard chewing gum really helps. I tried it on that plane ride I had, however, it didn't really help, but I didn't chew constantly. I guess you have to lol..

My advice would be to check the park calendars for the dates of your visit... disneyworld.disney.go.com/parks/magic-kingdom/calendar/disneyworld.disney.go.com/parks/epcot/calendar/disneyworld.disney.go.com/parks/hollywood-studios/calendar/disneyworld.disney.go.com/parks/animal-kingdom/calendar/Click on each day for times of shows and parades. Also, try to familiarise yourself with the layout of the parks. It will save you a lot of time trying to figure out where everything is! Look at maps or get the latest version of Google Earth and tour the parks and resorts in 3D! Make a check list of all the attractions you want to do and take it with you. It's really easy to forget things. If you want to see a lot of Ariel, make sure these are on your list... Fantasmic! (if you sit in the middle section down at the front, you'll get a perfect view of Ariel) Mickey's PhilharMagic Voyage of the Little Mermaid (sit at the front to see Ariel, or nearer the back to see all of the effects around the theatre) SpectroMagic ... and of course go and meet her at Ariel's Grotto. It's best to do this either early in the morning or late at night... or both! I would definitely recommend getting to Magic Kingdom early at least once. They do a welcome show at the train station about 15 minutes before the park opens and most of the attractions have no lines. Remember to take LOADS of pictures. You'll be glad you did when you get home. Have fun!

The day is coming up fast.
Thanks for the great advice. Going to Costco for gum =)
Love the Google Earth Idea. I'll have to get together with my friend and take a look at it and decide.
I've pretty much been researching every day. Bought one of those guidebooks ("WDW w/o kids")
Do you guys recommend the Magical Express Service from the airport? We are coming in early evening on Saturday. We are thinking about just bringing it along on the bus, because it's late and we hear it might be a few hours before the luggage gets to your room. Thoughts?
Thank you for the Ariel-centric list of places to visit. whoo hoo.
Right now we have decided not to visit Animal Kingdom. we've got the wild animal park here in San Diego. LOL, not the same I know, but still. But who knows, as the day gets closer and we finalize things, we might just make it there.
One park each day. Our 4th and last full day we are thinking about it being a "shopping/go to the park you most liked and want to see again" day.
No doubt I will be taking lots and lots of photos. My friend is bringing her laptop so we can just upload each evening. tee hee. She gave me a camera battery for christmas (was at a concert and missed out on prime photos because battery died). So now I have two. whooo hooo. I'm going to buy another memory card too. =)
Thanks so much everyone. all the advice will just help things go so much easier.

I am back home and had the most wonderful birthday vacation ever. I already miss WDW. I took about 500 photos. So it may take me a while to get them uploaded. =) I'll make a separate post when i do get them all on my computer. I laughed and I cried. It was so much fun.
