Little Mermaid's Island was a project proposed by Jim Henson in 1990, during talks with The Walt Disney Company, as a spin-off of Disney's animated film The Little Mermaid. Two episodes were shot, but never aired: "Sebastian's Birthday" and "Tell the Truth". It was intended as a daily series to air on Disney Channel, with puppets against blue screen and human characters interacting. Filming took place in a very old studio (once owned by Mary Pickford) in the Silverlake district of Los Angeles. In the show, Ariel was portrayed by a human performer, Marietta Deprima, playing opposite puppet versions of Sebastian the crab, Scuttle the seagull, Flotsam and Jetsam, and Flounder the fish, as well as a new character, Flounder's twin sister, Sandy. The other live cast member was character actor Clive Revill as a variation of Grimsby from the original film, here re-conceived as a jovial sea captain who lived on an island nearby to Ariel. The puppet used for Ambrosius in Labyrinth was recycled as Max the sheepdog. There was also a full body puppet called Scales the Dragon, a musical dragon who lived in a cave and created songs with his rock piano and pots and pans. Each episode was planned to have four musical numbers, with ten songwriters assigned to the project. The project went into pre-production before the release of the film, with many of the original vocal cast set to reprise their roles (including Samuel E. Wright and Buddy Hackett). Here's one of my favorite songs:

How have I never seen this before? This is so cute! It's also amazing to see Sandy somewhere outside of the treasure box bookset, I didn't know she appeared anywhere else! I suppose she originated here, huh? How cool.

Well someone who knows about this LOST aspect of Ariel
Yea Groiler made a series of books (The Treasure Chest) that were loosely based on proposed series ALSO Clive Revil appeared in a few episodes of the animated series as well
One of the sets (Sebastian's House) made it into an episode of Dinosaurs
Tried to get internship at Jim Henson's in NYC back in 1990 Unlike others here was not successful hence how I found out bout the show (Along with TV Guide Magazine)
Aside from youtube Where did the footage come from?
My favorite song{s} were Sebastian's Birthday Song and What Can it be
Between the two shows there were at least EIGHT songs (part of the reason it did NOT see the light of day)

This is super cool! Wish it would've lasted longer than it did, did Jodi record any music for this or was it just Marietta? I would love to see the full episodes too! Where did you find them and where can we watch them?

I'm sorry guys but I can't tell where I got it from, because I could get in trouble...
But I can upload a couple of more songs on youtube if you want. And I can answer all of your questions about this show.
Jodi Benson was not involved in this project. But the original voices of Sebastian (Samuel E. Wright) and Scuttle (Buddy Hackett) came back for this show.
Here's the full theme song (including the end credits part of the song)
Sung by Marietta Deprima as Ariel and Samuel E. Wright as Sebastian

AS CAN I!!!! I DID try to get a job at Henson on the ninties There are only two episodes
Lat I heard the "muppets" were in storage somewhere in New Jersey And that was 1992
And yes I do NOT post it for the trouble it could cause.
Given Disney's love/HATE relationship with the film I am not so sure I ask where this came from for if it's what I think then.............
Lets say everyone is a hypocrite

Also you cut of Scuttle's last word at the end. In both episodes he has the last sentence after the credits end
Again aware of problems leaking info could cause(I had this secret for 27 years!)
Flawed as this was it deserves a reveal
also how does One post video's here?
Would love to put up my Voyage of Little Mermaid i taped back in 1992

I remember seeing an actual for this on iofffer a while back, saying it was a disc containing the two filmed episodes of the series, and i was very tempted to buy it! But I doubted the legitimacy and therefore did not. I'm glad some footage is surfacing! The whole concept is quite intriguing!

Here's another little clip I found! Including the title song we've already heard, and a song by Flounder and Sandy! (And a brief appearance by Flotsam and Jetsam as well.
