I would LOVE for this to happen! Already on the Disney Cruise Line stage show of The Little Mermaid, there are Black actresses portraying Ariel, though they don’t do the meet and greets and the meet and greet Ariel is still the same as in the animated film. I think it’s possible to have both but they won’t be able to be out at exactly the same time or else some multiverse questions may need to be answered. The Parks do have some live action meet and greet face characters - Cruella & Maleficent are a few I can think of. And those characters also exist as meet & greet face characters that match their cartoon forms. They only bring the live action versions out for special events. So I’m thinking Halle’s Ariel could absolutely be brought out for special events with the other live action adaptation characters for existing cartoon characters. And/or if the Parks outside of the cruise line did their own stage show of The Little Mermaid and cast actresses to look and sound more like Halle’s Ariel, that would also be wonderful! Voyage of The Little Mermaid is still sitting vacant at Hollywood Studios at Disney World (Orlando), there had been black mold growing during the shutdown and for whatever reason this show just hasn’t been able to bounce back like the other Equity stage shows they have there (like the Frozen Sing Along & the Beauty and the Beast stage show). They’re all under the same union (Actor’s Equity Association) but Voyage has had some additional struggles due to the mold issues with the building itself not being suitable to run the show at the moment, I really hope they’re working on it. all that aside, they could retrofit Voyage to have either an Ariel that’s just the live action Ariel or it could rotate between a variety of actresses playing the role, since it’s not a meet & greet character there’s no reason that Ariel needs to be an exact lookalike for the cartoon - the Frozen stage show at the Hyperion (no longer there tho) cast all their characters pretty inclusively to where Anna & Elsa & Hans & Kristoff & Olaf and pretty much everyone was played by actors of a wide variety of races and ethnicities. So that’s my two cents on possible options to cast and bring in Halle’s Ariel to the Disney Parks! What are your thoughts?

I agree with your analisys. I think it's possible that there will be a new show with new Ariel or simply a "multiverse" with more Ariels (classic Ariel, HallAriel and others - asian Ariel?). This is not a meet & greet character, is a show like Frozen stage show, for me it's very possible that there will be a new Ariel show based on new movie.

When Walt Disney World Resort began it’s phased reopening amid the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, several close-contact attractions remained closed, including the iconic Voyage of the Little Mermaid stage show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. But could a mold infestation be the issue?
Disney's Voyage of the Little Mermaid Credit: D23
The Show The musical stage production located in the Disney Park’s Animation Courtyard was a 14-minute show that used live-action actors and actresses along with puppetry, special effects, and music to tell the story of Disney’s beloved The Little Mermaid (1989).
Among many of the show’s highlights in Voyage of the Little Mermaid, one of the most impressive parts was the 12-feet high and 10-feet wide Ursula puppet that would sing the villainous Sea Witch song, “Poor Unfortunate Soul.”

Sadly, two years after Disney’s reopening, the Little Mermaid attraction has remained closed. Not only has Disney kept the show’s doors closed, but they have removed the Voyage of the Little Mermaid landing page from its website, which surely isn’t a good sign.
Ariel’s Fin Reused With Disney’s Hollywood Studios, “Fantasmic!” finally back at the Park, fans were thrilled to see multiple characters during the nightly entertainment. Interestingly enough, die-hard Disney fans were quick to spot Ariel’s fin in the show as the former fin used by Ariel in Voyage of the Little Mermaid.
As first reported by DisneyTips, @helenjp1313 took to social media to share a video of Ariel’s “Fantasmic!” fin and its link back to the Voyage of the Little Mermaid attraction, speculating that this could be a sign that Voyage of the Little Mermaid is not coming back. Check out the video below:
Alleged Mold Infestation Comments to the video flood in as Disney fans talk about a potential mold infestation being the reason for the Little Mermaid show’s closure.
One comment notes, “The urban legend is that the theatre is covered in mold and in order to clean it they’d have to condemn the building and build it again which they’ll.” In response to that comment, a person adds, “Yes it is! My husband worked at studios and said the theatre is disgusting and moldy and that this show isn’t coming back anytime soon if at all.”
Another comment states, “Not speaking as a studios cm but as a ~private citizen~… that shows building is full of mold it was damp pre COVID.”
According to one comment, “The building flooded during the pandemic and the only way for them to get the show back is to rebuild the building due to lots of mold.”

Could these alleged reports of mold be true, or are these rumors nothing but talk? Regardless of the situation, a statement on the Voyage of the Little Mermaid’s condition or reopening status would be great to hear from Walt Disney World.
“Halle Bailey-Focused Show” Furthermore, could a revamp of Voyage of the Little Mermaid with a “Halle Bailey-focused show” be in the works? The live-action Little Mermaid film starring Halle Bailey as Ariel is scheduled to be released May 26, 2023, with the following teaser trailer below.
As always, we will continue to keep Disney Dining readers updated as we learn more about the future of Voyage of the Little Mermaid at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Source: attractionsmagazine.com/disney-seeking-performers-for-upcoming-live-action-movie-ariel-character/Disney seeking performers for upcoming live-action movie Ariel character written by Tharin White January 20, 2023 Disney’s upcoming live-action “The Little Mermaid” film debuts this May, 26. This film started some controversy online when Disney revealed the main actress, Halle Bailey. Now Walt Disney World is bringing this version of Ariel to the parks.
Online submissions have begun and will stay open until Feb. 2, 2023. These online submissions require you to learn a choreographed set of movements as well as provide some character animations. You will also be required to provide photos of yourself.
Online submissions for upcoming live action Ariel character performers.
Reading through the submission details, there is no specific requirement for looks outside of the height requirement of 5’2″ to 5’6″. Disney is seeking, “an inquisitive and daring mermaid princess, Ariel is fascinated by the world of humans. Whether she’s on land or under the sea, she’s eager to connect her two worlds, knowing they aren’t so different after all. Ariel appears as depicted in the upcoming live-action adaption of The Little Mermaid.”
Current cartoon-based look of Ariel at Disney Parks.
The online submission mentions this performer is a look-alike for the upcoming live-action “The Little Mermaid” Ariel character. While not blatantly said, it could be assumed Disney is looking for African American performers. We recently wrote about how Disney is bringing back Ariel’s Grotto meet and greet at the Magic Kingdom. The posted audition does not mention where this version of Ariel would be placed. We also do not have details about if the current cartoon-based version of Ariel would be replaced.
At Disney Parks in the United States, as well as some other competitor’s theme parks, Santa Claus’ race has become ambiguous. The upcoming live-action “The Little Mermaid” film presents the first time that Disney has retold a story with a different character look. This change presents opportunities in the parks for more children to feel represented, which ties in strongly with Disney’s newest business key, inclusion.
It also brings questions about the future of Ariel at the park. Will both of these versions of the character be presented as one, will the movie version of The Little Mermaid be represented by different races, like with Santa Claus. Or will the characters be represented separately, like the cartoon and live-action Buzz Lightyear.
Voyage of The Little Mermaid - full show at Disney's Hollywood Studios
One major opportunity is at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Here we have the currently closed Voyage of The Little Mermaid show. This show has been closed for many years with no replacement announced. The show was rumored to re-open with an update in 2022, but that never happened. Perhaps the 2023 “The Little Mermaid” film provides a unique opportunity to bring this character to life in her own spotlight.
For now, we have limited details on what will happen with Ariel in the parks. But you can expect to see the live-action new movie Ariel appear at Walt Disney World in the coming months, most likely timed for the debut of the film in May.

Although Disney’s live-action adaptation The Little Mermaid doesn’t come out until May, it appears that the company is already gearing up to introduce the new Ariel to one of its biggest parks.
According to a job post on Disney’s Career website, the company began accepting online submissions for actors who want to perform as the character this past Friday (January 20th).
“Disney Live Entertainment is seeking Disney Character look-alikes for the role of ARIEL as depicted in the upcoming live-action adaption of The Little Mermaid,” the job opening reads.
The listing reads that Disney is looking for candidates who are 5’2”-5’6” with warm, engaging, and outgoing personalities to portray the mermaid princess.
The description goes to say that “performers will have the opportunity to bring this role to life, in addition to performing as world famous Disney Characters at our Parks & Resorts near Orlando, Florida.” That means that most likely the character will only be present at Disney’s Florida parks, or at least she would debut there first.
Submissions will be accepted through February 5, 2023, just in time for when we may get our next sneak peak at the film during the Super Bowl.
The Little Mermaid will feature the original music by Alan Menken (Tangled and 1989’s The Little Mermaid) in addition to four brand new songs co-written by Lin-Manuel Miranda (Encanto).
The film stars Halle Bailey (grown-ish) as the titular Disney princess, Jonah Hauer-King (A Dog’s Way Home) as Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids) as Ursula, Awkwafina (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) as Scuttle, Daveed Diggs (Snowpiercer) as Sebastian, and Jacob Tremblay (Room) as Flounder. Also set to star is Emily Coates, Jude Akuwudike, Noma Dumezweni, Russell Balogh, and Adrian Christopher.
It will splash into theaters on May 26, 2023.

Source: www.disneydining.com/disney-world-casting-live-action-style-ariel-sj1/Disney World Casting For Live-Action Style Ariel Character Posted by: Spencer Johnette January 23, 2023
On January 20, 2023, DisneyCareers posted an open casting call for Walt Disney World character performers resembling the live-action depiction of Ariel from Walt Disney Studios’ upcoming The Little Mermaid (2023).
Disney’s The Little Mermaid tells the now-beloved tale of a genuine “fish out of water” princess who longs to explore the human world under the strict control of her father King Triton. The soon-to-debut live-action adaptation featuring new music from famous composers Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken (one-half of the team responsible for the award-winning soundtrack in the animated 1989 original) also updates the storyline in more ways than one, most notably the casting of singer-songwriter and performer Halle Bailey in the lead role of Ariel.
Unfortunately, not all fans reacted positively to the casting, resulting in an outcry over Disney’s alleged “woke agenda” despite Little Mermaid’s director Rob Marshall clarifying that they did not cast based on race but rather chose Bailey out of a diverse pool of candidates because she was the best fit.
Now, Disney Parks is doing the same, putting out a casting call for online audition submissions now until next month for performers resembling Halle in the role of Ariel. Since Disney lists the role as a “look-alike” position, Disney likely intends for this Ariel to visit with Guests around one of its theme parks rather than a stage performance or other type of entertainment show.
In fact, a full statement on the DisneyCareers site reads:
Disney Live Entertainment is seeking Disney Character Look-alikes for the role of ARIEL as depicted in the upcoming live-action adaption of “The Little Mermaid.” Performers will have the opportunity to bring this role to life, in addition to performing as world famous Disney Characters at our Parks & Resorts near Orlando, Florida. Disney Character Performers play before thousands of Guests each day in character greetings, sightings, and other experiences across the Walt Disney World Resort. Performers sign autographs, pose for pictures, and help create magical moments with Guests of all ages.
Moreover, Disney notes that those auditioning for this role should have “warm, engaging, and outgoing personalities” to accurately bring to life this “inquisitive and daring mermaid princess… fascinated by the world of humans.” Plus, it continues: “Whether she’s on land or under the sea, she’s eager to connect her two worlds, knowing they aren’t so different after all. Ariel appears as depicted in the upcoming live-action adaption of The Little Mermaid.”
Notably, the casting call then includes a photo of both Ariel from the upcoming 2023 film, as well as a promotional image of Bailey herself. Although the description does not specify necessary physical requirements beyond a height requirement of 5’2″ to 5’6,” assumably this means they only want Black performers resembling Bailey to apply, a distinctive diversion from Ariel’s previous white, blue-eyed, and red-haired appearance at the Walt Disney World Resort and beyond.
As Attractions Magazine notes in a recent article on the casting call, as of yet, it’s unclear whether Disney intends to temporarily (or even permanently) replace the existing depiction of Ariel’s animated form by character performers to rotate between the old and new versions as Disneyland did for Buzz Lightyear, or even something completely different! Perhaps this version of Ariel will specifically feature in a promotional meet-and-greet following the film’s release this year, or a limited-time entertainment spectacle similar to 2019’s Tale of the Lion King in honor of the classic’s live-action, with the opportunity for a future permanence in the Parks!
If you’d like to try your hand at becoming part of her world, the DisneyCareers site will accept auditions for the role of Ariel until February 5, 2023. Plus, fans of all ages can welcome this new princess into the fold when The Little Mermaid debuts in theaters on May 26.

Disney could be seeking a drastic change, as the Parks might be replacing the classic Disney Princess Ariel with Halle Bailey’s version from the upcoming live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid.
When visiting Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, or any of the Disney Parks worldwide, Guests can meet and interact with some of their favorite Disney characters, from Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse to Princess Tiana, Princess Jasmine, Snow White, Cinderella, Belle, Ariel, and so many more! Character interactions are so popular that some Guests are willing to pay additional charges to meet their favorite Disney characters, which is no wonder considering that new characters are constantly debuting at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort.
New characters often debut at Disney Parks with the latest movies and series premiere, like Black Panther, Shang Chi, Boba Fett, Fennec Shand, The Mandalorian, and Grogu. And with the upcoming live-action adaptation of the beloved Disney classic The Little Mermaid, it would appear that Disney is seeking to make a significant change to meet and greets with Ariel.
Inside the Magic recently reported that Walt Disney World Resort was actively casting young actresses to portray Halle Bailey’s version of Ariel at the Disney Parks. Well, it seems that this casting is extending beyond Orlando, as Disneyland Resort recently posted a similar casting, seeking young actresses to play the role of Halle Bailey’s Ariel at the Southern California theme park.
The official Disney Auditions website states:
Disney Live Entertainment is seeking Disney Character Look-alikes for the role of ARIEL as depicted in the upcoming live-action adaption of The Little Mermaid.
ARIEL: An inquisitive and daring mermaid princess, Ariel is fascinated by the world of humans. Whether she’s on land or under the sea, she’s eager to connect her two worlds, knowing they aren’t so different after all. Ariel appears as depicted in the upcoming live-action adaption of The Little Mermaid.
The ideal profile for the role, per Disney, includes 5’2”-5’6” candidates with warm, engaging, and outgoing personalities. The tasks for this demanding role include playing Ariel before thousands of guests each day in character greetings, sightings, and other experiences across the Disneyland Resort while signing autographs, posing for pictures, and helping create magical moments with Guests of all ages.
Disney Parks officials have not shared any statements regarding a permanent change to character interactions with Ariel, addressing if the classic character would be permanently replaced with HalleBailey’ss live-action version, if both versions of Ariel would alternate character interactions at the Parks, or if the live-action version of Ariel will appear temporarily at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort after the premiere of The Little Mermaid later this year, with the classic version of Ariel returning after.
The upcoming live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid starring Halle Bailey has sparked polemic since it was first announced. While millions of young girls are delighted by the significant step forward in representation the live-action adaptation will mean, countless comments of racism have surfaced, with actress Halle Bailey speaking out on the backlash her casting caused.
Directed by Rob Marshall, The Little Mermaid (2023) features original music by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken. Bailey is Ariel, Melissa McCarthy is Ursula the Sea Witch, Jonah Hauer-King is Prince Eric, Javier Bardem is King Triton, Daveed Diggs is Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay is Flounder, and Awkwafina is Scuttle the seagull. Catch it in theaters on May 26, 2023!

Hi! I’ve been away for a little while but am just now getting back (admining the Facebook group is like a full-time job sometimes 🙃). I’d just like to note that the 1989 Ariel is not being “replaced”, 2023 Ariel will make appearances at the Disney Parks for special events and meet & greets, but cartoon Ariel will still be in the places we know her to be (Ariel’s Grotto, Festival of Fantasy, character dining, etc). It’s exciting that a live action adaptation has enough buzz and anticipation that Disney is creating a separate look for the character that will be available to be met at many of their Parks! I know Disneyland has had live action Cruella & Maleficent for meet & greets and events during Halloween after dark, while the cartoon versions were also available to meet at the parks during the day and at separate locations and events, so it will most likely be something similar to preserve character integrity & not confuse guests. Lowkey though I’d love to see both Ariels interact with each other, that would be adorable 🥹 but Disney would never do that lol
