Halle Bailey keeps proving to us all why she was the perfect choice for the upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. Last night (October 1), the younger half of the r&b duo Chloe x Halle had a special performance at Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Special. There, the 21-year-old performed a stirring rendition of the Lion King classic song, “Can You Feel The Love Tonight?” and thrilled audiences everywhere with her gorgeous voice and stunning looks. During the performance, she looked like a real-life princess, donning an elegant, black, sequined, and sheer Elie Saab SS21 Couture ball gown, minimal but sparkly jewelry, and her hair in a crown braid as styled by @nikkixcortez.
She was introduced by the legendary Whoopi Goldberg and belted out the classic notes in front of a live orchestra, fireworks, and Disney’s Magic Kingdom. Check out the chilling performance below.
Following the performance, she channeled her inner princess and posed in front of Disney’s Magic Kingdom while taking a few shots for the ‘Gram. “had the best time singing tonight 🥰🖤,” she captioned the photo set, which included three flicks in front of the legendary castle.
“OMG IM FINNA CRY,” actress Storm Reid commented on her post while fellow Grown-ish star, Yara Shahid simply said, “Princess !!!!”
But Instagram wasn’t the only place that fans were moved by Halle’s beautiful performance as the singer and actress was trending all last night with social media users in awe of her stellar performance.
“Halle ATE that and left NO crumbs!! I absolutely love her!” one fan tweeted.
While another noted how stunning she looks, and has been looking lately, commenting “Halle Bailey still hasn’t missed.”
Of course, Halle’s big sis and groupmate Chloe Bailey was also on social media tweeting her words of support, writing, “i love you so so so so much @hallebailey omg.”
We just love their bond!
Now, we can’t WAIT to see Halle play Ariel in The Little Mermaid, which hits theaters in May 2023!

Aisha Powell | Oct 2, 2021 Halle Bailey wowed the audience with her rendition of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” during Disney World’s 50th Anniversary event.
The 21-year-old singer, who is half of the R&B duo Chloe x Halle, delivered the chilling performance during the special televised event which premiered on the ABC network Friday night.
The song is a classic track in Disney history, originally sung by Black gospel singer Kristle Edwards and produced by Elton John for the 1994 film, The Lion King.
“Hi everyone,” said the singer in a video posted on Twitter. “It’s Halle Bailey, and look at where I am. I’m in Magic Kingdom, and tonight I will be performing at the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World celebration.”
When the special ended, she posted a set of snapshots on Twitter showing off her beautiful black gown, and said that she “had the best time singing tonight.”
This performance marks Bailey’s first time singing solo for a major Disney event.
Halle and her sister Chloe steadily produced music together, leading up to the release of their 2017 critically acclaimed mixtape The Two of Us. They gained even more attention after being cast in recurring roles on the ABC sitcom Grown-ish, a spin-off of the popular series Black-ish.
In 2018, it was announced that the duo would be the opening act for Beyoncé and billionaire rapper Jay-Z’s On the Run Tour. They would go on to call the Grammy-award-winning singer their mentor.
After the release of their song “Warrior,” which appeared on their debut album The Kids Are Alright and the Wrinkle in Time soundtrack, the duo got their first two Grammy nominations.
Bailey is a soon-to-be Disney princess, playing the role of Ariel in the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid which is set to be released on May 26, 2023.
The news stirred up much controversy, as Bailey received racial backlash for not “looking like” the original Ariel, who was White with red hair.
In an interview with Variety, the singer said that she doesn’t pay attention to negativity, “I just feel like this role was something bigger than me, and greater, and it’s going to be beautiful and I’m just so excited to be a part of it.”
After the commercial success of their second studio album Ungodly Hour — which debuted in the top 20 on Billboard and produced their first charting single on Billboard, with “Do It” — Halle and Chloe announced that after nine years of sharing social media accounts, they would be splitting up their handles.
“[The distance] led us to create our own Instagram pages so we would be able to do our lives together still,” said Halle in an interview with the Breakfast Club. The two made the decision when she was filming for the Little Mermaid in London.
Since then, the two sisters have been doing their own thing. Chloe released her first solo single “Have Mercy” in September, and Halle has risen as a fashion icon from some of her recent jaw-dropping looks, and has received widespread praise for her singing videos.
The duo still come together to do their “Tea Time” advice and girl chats on Instagram Live.

BY ABIGAIL ONG-PIZARRO PUBLISHED 21 HOURS AGO
Live-Action Little Mermaid Actress Covers Classic Lion King Song Halle Bailey, who plays Ariel in Disney's upcoming live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, gave fans a peek at her princess performance as she sang a classic The Lion King song. The 21-year-old singer/actress's rise to fame started when she and her older sister Chloe posted their covers of Beyonce's hits as teenagers. Since their humble beginnings on Youtube, the duo gained a large following in the R&B genre and even earned a total of five Grammy Award nominations. Bailey also stars in the sitcom series Grown-ish.
The Little Mermaid marks Bailey's major big-screen debut. The upcoming film, which is set to hit theaters in 2023, is a live-action remake of the 1989 animated movie. Rob Marshall helms the project with longtime Disney collaborator Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda on board to provide the musical score. Bailey stars alongside veteran actors Javier Bardem as King Triton and Melissa McCarthy as the villain Ursula. Completing the cast are Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Awkwafina as Scuttle, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, and Jacob Tremblay as Flounder.
Bailey proved that she's every inch a Disney princess as she performed at Walt Disney World's 50th Anniversary Special (via CxHNow) last Friday. The young actress gave a stirring rendition of The Lion King anthem, 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" Wearing a gorgeous ballgown, Bailey sparkled as she sang in front of the Magic Kingdom castle with a live orchestra and an amazing fireworks display. After her breathtaking performance, Bailey took to social media to immortalize the surreal moment. "Had the best time singing tonight," she wrote on her Instagram caption.
The Little Mermaid wrapped up production in Sardinia, Italy last July. Bailey marked the occasion by sharing a first look image of herself as Princess Ariel. While there have also been leaked set photos of the actress dressed in some of Ariel's most memorable looks, fans have been waiting to find out how she will fully transform as the beloved character.
Interestingly, Bailey's casting as the new Ariel initially received mixed reactions. While some praised Disney's bold move to choose a woman of color for the role, others thought it was a drastic departure from the original animated movie. Bailey's amazing performance last Friday serves as a sneak peek of what fans can expect when she officially debuts her version of Ariel. Through the short song number, which barely lasted four minutes, Bailey showed her wonderful vocal ability and exuded charm like a true Disney princess. The Little Mermaid is still two years away and Bailey will surely have more Disney-related events to prove that she's perfect for the role.
