There are loads of storyline clashes in the series, either with different episodes or with the movie. For example, in the series Sebastian spends a lot of time in Ariel's grotto and then is shocked to discover its existance in the movie (maybe he suffered amnesia between the two). If you discover any new ones, share them here! Here's one I found today. Ariel uses a fork in 'Stormy'!

In the song "Never Give Up" ariel tells sebastian "your the fire that...." how come she knows what fire is while in "part fo your world" she was wondering what it was. disney awlays make this kind of mistakes like in aladdin series genie is still living in the lamp while in the movie he was freed, and still wears the stuff in his hands...
another one in TLM which i mentioned before Adella is fat in the series while in the movie she is very thin, its like they are 2 different characters...if we say from the seires to the movie she did a diet how come in TLM2 she was back to the old fat Adella who we saw in the series??
In Metal Fish she was helping the human, and in the movie she said "i've never seen a human this close before" when she saw eric..she was more close to the human in the episode than eric on the ship.....
Ursula is in the whole series and she meets with ariel a couple of times how come in the movie she almost didnt know who she was,she even entered her layer in "Ariel's Treasures" and in the movie she acted as if it was her first time to go there...

I also wonder wherever was Archimedes at the time of the movie? I think that he would have been maybe a more trustful source than Scuttle...

I think it's just that the people who did the series didn't really pay attention to the movie. And/or just didn't care if they wen't against the movie.

It's really hard to keep continuity straight on a TV series, and sometimes it isn't worth it VS what story ideas you could pursue.
If it comes down to being able to do the "Metal Fish" episode or staying true to a throwaway line from the movie, what are ya gonna choose?
Plus Disney's always been very flexible continuity-wise.
I mean Hercules had never met Hades until they made the deal in the movie, yet he popped up all the time in the series as villain, and IMO they made the right call. Hades is SUCH a fabulous character and James Woods does SUCH a great job, the show would have really suffered without him.

I also noticed from the "Stormy" Episode where Ariel uses a fork to eat, yet she thinks it's used to comb hair in the movie.

Oh, in the episode "Charmed" she's in a sunken ship and sees a mirror and is all like humans must use these to look at themselves when it other episodes and the movie they have mirrors in their dressing room/bathroom.

Maybe they ALL got amnesia. Ariel, Sebastian, and Flounder.
The lead-in bits, though, are great....like how Ariel is frightened of humans at first until she learns a bit about them....

yer prehaps Ursula (or even Morgana because her magic always goes wrong) attempted some concoction of some sort but it backfired and every creature in the sea got amnesia

ENOUGH WITH THE AMNESIA THEORY! Lol, just kidding.. I do doubt that's what happened. It's just the series, it's not like anything to really like effect the Little Mermaid Universe.

Haha Amnesia. i'm sure. What I thought was weird was they seemed to be more modern than everyone on the surface. I mean, the carnival with bumper cars and then there were those squidcycle things. Humans didn't even have those at the time so would they have learned them from the merpeople?

Well Atlantis was a very advanced civilization and I'm guessing Atlantica is a play on words for Atlantis so I guess they got the idea from that.

Especially with the lingo: i.e. "That's cool!" True. And Pearl in general sounded far ahead of her time.

hmmmm,in the episoed beached arista and ariel got along, but in against the tide they didn't,that's the problem with those shows-they make errors with the films (like the hades think in the hercules series). and it bothers me that there's the lobster mobster in the series,it's a fairy tale world-since when there's mobsters in fairy tales? .

Sometimes when I'm watching it on TV, it seems like hey were trying to make it as...let's call i a 'prequal series'.
But that's just me.

Well... it is a prequal series isn't it? So you're right to call it that.
