I wanted to write a short fic about how Ariel became so captivated with humans, its a prequel which will explain some appearances in the story. Its only the opening, so feedback would be welcomed to see if i should carry on!
Chapter 1
Ariel sat opposite her mirror, playing with locks of her lengthy red hair. It wouldn't do what she wanted it too, ever. She looked hopelessly at herself, a miserable expression spread across her face. It wasn't the hair. It was something else. Ariel had always felt there was something missing in her life, maybe excitement, adventure? She wasn't sure. She hardly left the palace. Her father was so strict on these things, whereas her mother was not. Ariel felt herself smile at the thought of her mother. The only person in her life who wanted to grant her freedom. It surprised her that she understood, as usually this was not the case.
"Ariel?!" The mermaid swivelled around to see Flounder swimming up to her.
"Oh, hey Flounder." She smiled fakely, turning bacxk to the mirror.
"I've been shouting you for the past few minutes, your mom wants you" Ariel nodded and swam past, and out the door.
"Mom?" Ariel called, looking about curiously.
"Over here darling!" She heard the familiar voice echo her.
"Yeah mom?" The redhead asked, floating up to her mother, who resembled her drammatically.
"Come with me" She grinned, swimminig ahead. The teenager obeyed, following along behind her.
Soon, they had been swimming or a long while and Ariel piped up.
"Mom? What's this about?" It was then that her mother pointed upwards and Ariel saw it. The shadow of a great ship, gliding along the surface of the ocean.
"Humans" Her mother responded, swimming upwards towards it.
"Mom! Daddy would flip if he knew we were near humans! Besides, it's dangerous!" Ariel felt odd, she never thought she'd be discouraging her mother from something like this.
"Oh Ariel, I had to show you the beauty which is the human world"
As she said this, there was an explosiong of bubbles from below, and the pair looked down to see what had happened. What they saw was shocking, Ursula, the sea witch was swimming towards them, followed by her trusted accomplises Fletsum and Jetsum. Ariel looked terrified while her mother's expression darkened.
"Ursula, you have been banished form our kingdom." She growled.
"Oh your RIGHT your heiness." Ursula sneered, circling the couple. "But this isn't the kingdom, no. This is way too far out. I like to call this area MY kingdom." She grinned, looking from the queen to the little princess.
"Oh Ariel!" She looked at her eel accomplises. "I haven't seen this one since I lived in the palace!" Ariel looked stunned. "Of course then you were tiny."
"What do you want Ursula?" The Queen demanded.
