So, I just wrote this out of nowhere. It was just kinda on a whim trying to get some ideas and I actually kinda liked it. Anyway, here it is; it's short but I hope it's entertaining nonetheless. Thanks.

“What to do you hear?”
“…Nothing.”
“What? No singing tonight?” Ariel asked, feigning surprise.
“I think she’s asleep.”
“He’s asleep.”
“Ariel,” said Eric, lying down beside her, “why does it have to be a boy?”
“Because Eric, everyone says it’s going to be a boy.”
“So,” he said with a pout.
“So? Do you know how many people you’re arguing with? Carlotta, my sisters, Ethan and Tony, our doctor! Eric, it’s a boy.”
“Well, I want a girl. I thought you’d want one too.”
Ariel looked exasperated.
“I grew up with six girls and trust me, there was always some kind of chaos in that castle! We’d squeal constantly, have sleepovers that would last all night, and almost every morning there’d be a fight about who stole whose seashell hair clip. It would drive my father crazy! After all that, I just think a boy would be a little calmer.”
“Calmer? What are you talking about? There is nothing calm about a little boy. All they ever want to do is climb and jump and destroy everything in their path regardless of sentimental or monetary value. No…no, no, no,” he said, putting his hands between his head and the pillow, “We cannot have a boy, especially if he’s anything like his mother.”
Ariel sounded her offense. Then (with a little more effort than would have been necessary several months before), she turned over toward Eric.
“What is that supposed to mean?”
“It means that if this child is anything like you, my hair is going to be as white as your father’s within the first year.”
Ariel laughed.
“You act like I’m the only one who gets into trouble. Don’t you remember your twentieth birthday?”
All the color drained from Eric’s face.
“I thought we agreed not to talk about that.”
“I’m not talking about it, I’m mentioning it. You have your wild side too, Mr. Adventurous Sailor.”
“Well I’m not the one that comes up with all the dangerous ideas!”
“But you are the one who puts them into action,” said Ariel with a smirk. “I just said that Florence would be a nice place to visit. You were the one who woke up the entire crew and weighed anchor at two o’clock in the morning.”
Eric grumbled and turned over.
“Eric!”
Ariel tried her best to scoot over to her husband. After some artful maneuvering, she was finally able to put her arm over him.
“All right,” Eric said, deflated. “We are pretty evenly matched when it comes to…well, trouble.”
“Thank you.”
Eric took Ariel’s hand and started to intertwine their fingers.
“So I guess it doesn’t matter if it’s a boy or a girl; we’re going to have our hands full either way.”
“Right.”
“So I can keep saying it’s a girl since it’s not going to matter.”
“Right. Wait…”
“Nope!” said Eric, turning onto his back, sending Ariel onto hers. “You said it, I won!”
“You won? Won what? Eric, you…oh.”
Ariel put her hand to her stomach.
“What? What is it?” asked Eric, concerned.
“You’re son is kicking me,” she said with a smile.
Eric reached over and put his hand on Ariel’s.
“She’s strong isn’t she?”
Ariel looked at Eric who was staring intently at their hands gently moving up and down. Then she kissed him on the cheek and leaned back onto her pillow.
