Profound..I know lol
I think of all Disney movies Peter Pan is the one that really defines Disney for me if that makes sense. It goes from reality to fantasy.. Wendy, John, and Michael live in the real world they are like us and they embark in this fantastical adventure. I'm not making sense but this is the epitome of Disney and what Disney magic does for us. THIS IS SOOOOO HARD TO EXPLAIN DANGIT!
It's just story that represents how a lot of us think, dream, and wish. I'm sure we all can relate to Wendy & Peter Pan, in our own lives. We all want to be believe in this Fantasy world where can explore and experience all the magic and fantasy that we're told does not exist.
This movie just really embodies all of what Disney is about to me. Peter Pan 2 is really good to in the same respect. I don't know what it is, it's just how these stories work is so near and dear to at least my own values and love for life. That MADE NO SENSE sorry!

I think I understand what you're saying. I agree that Peter Pan does capture the way a lot of people feel about Disney - it's something that allows them to hold on to their youth and imagination... but I have to admit I don't like the first movie very much. I love the story of Peter Pan but I don't think the movie does it justice. I'm sure people will hate me for saying this but I much prefer the sequel! I think the theme we're talking about here comes across more powerfully and the characters feel more real. I just wish the whole "pixie dust" thing wasn't so overdone!

I really loved Peter Pan ever since I first saw it when I was 5. Tinkerbell was always my favorite, and her pixie dust rocked! And did anyone notice the redhead mermaid with the green tail? Perhaps she inspired the design for Ariel.

I think you said it perfectly, Jazzy. I never really payed attention enough to notice it, but it does seem like the exact epitomy of what Disney is all about, the boundaries between reality and fantasy and the ability of our imagination/wishes/dreams to kind of blur that line. Although i'm not the biggest fan of the movie (I think it's because of the mermaids..I love them so much, I always fast forward to their scene then rewind and watch it over and over XD) but every now and then i'll watch the rest and I notice how good a movie it is. The animation from this era is to die for! Utterly superb. I was so skeptical of any Disney sequel after TLM2 that I missed Peter Pan 2 but I've been meaning to rent it (mainly to see the mermaids XD) i read somewhere ariel16, that it was an old Disney book Misty the Mischievious Mermaid that really set the basic design for ariel, and she was basically the same as the mermaid your talking about. It's funny how the stereotype of mermaids has changed from blonde to red-head since 1989

Really? I also saw on the Peter Pan 2-disc DVD that TinkerBell inspired Ariel's headstrong personality.

It's funny how the stereotype of mermaids has changed from blonde to red-head since 1989 hmmm... Maybe that Is true, but I have heard that they most likely didn't inspire her on Misty the mischevious Mermaid or even the redhaired mermaid in Peter Pan. I heard that the reason why Ariel was even MADE into a redhead was because Disney wanted to separate her from the "Splash" Mermaid. then again this might work as well. I heard the whole "Splash-separation" rumor on IMDB.com's article on The Little Mermaid. Ironically, Misty the Mischevious Mermaid (or rather, just "Misty") would also become the name of a certain red haired pokemon character, and was also mentioned as a "Tomboyish Mermaid" on the Cerulean Gym sign AND by Mayumi Iizuka. anyways, onto the topic on hand, yes, I think Peter Pan was somewhat good. I thought that it was ok. the whole realworld/dreamland parallel was also an interesting point. I'll admit that I didn't exactly favor the recent remake of it, though. (You know, the one with Peter Pan being some sort of sun god [whenever he returns, it immediately gets clear in meteorologic terms, such as in the beginning when his return eliminated the snow and ice that appeared when he left.] and the guy who played Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter Movies playing Captain Hook, among other things)

I actually really liked the remake XD I didn't like the mermaids though..they were cool, but they could have made a longer, better scene. I think they had his return melt the ice and switch into spring in Neverland aas a kind of symbol of how Peter is the heart of Neverland.
I heard the misty rumor a few years ago, before the special edition came out and in one of the interviews with the writers they mention what you said about having to make her NOT blonde because it was too close to the opening of splash. You can find a few pictures of blonde mermaid concept art, including her then-time dolphin pal.

I love Peter Pan Peter Pan is a good character and TinkerBell rocks . Return To Neverland was horrible,Peter was ruined, the only good thing about it is TinkerBell. I really something of TinkerBell or just the Disney Fairies.

Return To Neverland was horrible,Peter was ruined, the only good thing about it is TinkerBell. I can understand that. It sucks when a character you like gets messed up, like Ariel in TLM2. But I didn't like Peter anyway so it didn't bother me.

i watched return to neverland yesterday and thought it was cute. it's a sequel so i can't hold too high of standards for it, but i was laughing through the whole thing. the animation was really good, the colors were so crisp!
(**SPOILERS**) at the end, i would have really liked to see wendy get sprinkled with pixie dust and take a short little fly around with peter, showing her in her original childhood self (not a transformation, just a rememberance of her life's great adventure)

That movie, though I mean the characters and interactions itself are not that interesting to me. I love the message thats why it's one of my favorites...well only sequel I really like...

I personally, don't like Peter Pan as much as other Disney films. I'm not sure why, it's either I've seen it far too many times, or the character Peter really gets on my nerves.
But I agree with what Jazzy has said, how it sort of defines what Disney is. The whole magical idea, and never wanting to grow up, always letting that kid out of us for a while.

I love the story of Peter pan but I'm not too crazy about the disney movie. Like someone said earlier, the movie didn't do justice. The sequel really did stink! Me and my old friend were talking about how much we hate Jane all because she was being witchy to Tinkerbell and the boys. In the original books, Jane was very kind and sweet like her mother, Wendy, and totally did believe in Peter Pan! Disney should have never made that sequel because it ruined the first movie. The first movie just ends with Wendy and her parents looking at the ship that Peter's sailing and I like it that way! I don't want to think that Peter came back to London only to see that Wendy's grown up so he takes Jane with him, instead! It's so sad! :(
