I don't think that Aurora is a "damsel in distress" or got "rescued",she got a little help but that doesn't make her a damsel in distress. She's not some retarted person who get kidnapped all the time.

Ariel's Prince, Aurora got rescued from eternal sleep.
There's nothing wrong with that. I would love it if someone loved me and rescued me. There's nothing wrong with being saved if there's really nothing you can do about it. She was under a spell.
This goes especially to emily, but to everyone as well.
You said you didn't think these princesses really tried to achieve or go after their dreams?
WELL...
Aurora kept dreaming about her prince, thinking she fooled her aunts, and that if she kept dreaming it, it was sure to come true. Then, when she met someone she wanted, she didn't obey her aunts and not talk to him. She tried to get her aunts to meet him, and Mary Costa, the voice of Aurora, said she thought she planned to leave with him, until she realized she was really a princess whose parents ruled the whole kingdom and she had royal duties to follow!
Cinderella did try to go to the ball. Aside from believing that her dreams would come true if she kept faith in them, and never stopping, she tried to get her stepmother to let her go to the ball, as long as she had a dress. She started her dress, and the mice finished it. Then, she couldn't really do anything in time for the ball when it was ruined, so she needed her godmother. But she did get Bruno to chase away Lucifer so the mice could give her the key to unlock the door, and she gave the Duke the other slipper when the first one was destroyed, so she could achieve her dreams of happiness.
Ariel did go after her dreams, but on land she needed Sebastian's help with Eric's kiss, and later she needed Sebastian, Flounder, and Scuttle's help to stop Ursula and get back Eric.
See, you can be a girl who goes after your dreams, but you can still have help. One good thing to do in life is ask for help, even if these princesses got help without asking, because they were good people who made good friends.
It's true the later princesses were intentionally made to be stronger and more active in getting whatever they wanted, but this was because they were made in a time when people criticized passive female characters and demanded more active ones, and filmakers were aware of it.
Also, filmakers tried to be faithful to the original tales.
Even if later princesses did more, the older princesses did or tried something to achieve their dreams. I still love and appreciate the older princesses no matter what, for wishing and believing in their fairy tale ways.

I still love and appreciate the older princesses no matter what, for wishing and believing in their fairy tale ways. I agree with everything, except the part about getting stronger or more active as time goes by. For instance, Belle still needed quite a bit of help in her movie (eg, that little incident in the forest where she was nearly made into dogfood, as well as when she was locked in the cellar.), and in the case of Jasmine, she barely did anything in her movie to pursue her dreams (I mean, she complained about that law where a princess needs to be cast off to a prince by age 17, she hinted that her father was being abusive to her in regards to the marriage ("My father is forcing me to get married". The key word being "forcing me", which implies that he did something like physically torture her to make her come to that decision, when that wasn't even the case at all.), among other things. In fact, the closest thing to actively pursuing her dreams (or heck, even passively) was running away from the palace.). Arguably, Ariel's probably one of the more active princesses, as not only is she currently one of the few characters to actually fight the main villain (or at least attempt to fight the main villain), but she is also the only one who directly saved the prince (in her case, she saved him twice, first time being the shipwreck, the second when she deflected the Trident's ray from Eric. Three times if you count the wedding incident.).

I like them both I voted for Cindy because her story is a bit more interesting and tells more well...more of a story than sleeping beauty. i LOVE aurora though but i think Cindy has a little edge on her

pokeria, thank you.
I always thought Jasmine actually did something no other princess did. When she didn't have what she wanted, she didn't wait very long for it at all, she went out to get it by running away in the beginning of the film, and I thought she would have stayed that way if the guards didn't find her.
By the way, you can force someone to do something with just your will, pointing out why they have to do it, or threatening them (like the law will kill you if you don't marry!). Not that the Sultan would ever have the heart to do that, but he might literally arrange a marriage for her and have guards pull her to the chamber and tell her why she has to get married over and over and not let her leave until she gave in, simply because she had to marry a prince by a certain time.
But Ariel went after her dreams at the beginning, to, collecting everything she could about the human world, visiting the surface where the world she wanted was, and when she wanted to see Eric again, she planned to swim up to his castle. So maybe Ariel actually did more, or as much as Jasmine, she was just limited by having a tail!
The other princesses, even Belle, seemed to wait for an opportunity to come, but they still always planned on doing something somehow to get their dreams.
