www.reuters.com/article/filmNews/idUSTRE4AI2KN20081119I'm not sure what to think of this. I love that its coming to theatres again, but at the same time I'm a bit worried about what it's going to look like as a 3-D movie. I know there are a few BATB fans on this forum, what do you guys think?

I read about this on UD, and I feel the same about it as you Prince of Bubbles, it's great that is coming back but I don't know about it in 3D. I bet when it re-released on DVD in 2010, that it will include 3D glasses and you'll have the option of watching it in 3D

It's not terrible news. I just don't think the 3-D is necessary... Of, course 3-D IS necessary to get it into theaters now.
What if when TLM is released again, they decide to make it 3-D? I mean, it would be tampered with, and personally, I wouldn't be able to get over the "gimmicky"-ness of it, but TLM would still be in theaters...

I think this would be interesting to see actually. And to see TLM come in 3-D would be the day. But personally, I would like and not like this idea. I wonder how it would look. But I don't want to wear those stupid 3-d glasses...those are so annoying.

Well, if the 3-D remake of Beauty and the Beast is true, let's just hope that this time around, they actually show us Gaston's fate, rather than leaving it in the air.
I mean, one of the biggest annoyances of it was Gaston's... err... MIA kind of fate. So do we have him alive or do we have him dead? I mean, we have the S&C in his eyes, so it's a hint that he died, but on the other hand, they have a river below, so that's also a hint that he survived.
I mean, it shouldn't be so hard to show the results of the fall. Heck, they allowed us to see the results of Mufasa's fall/being trampled, just to prove to us that he died. If they could do it with Mufasa, why not Gaston. I mean, seeing how this version is a 3D remake, anyways, it won't matter if Mufasa's death was made after Gaston's supposed death. I mean, if they wanted to prove to us that Gaston died, couldn't they at least show us the body (even If it's not the way they would do it, it would at least settle it once and for all.)?
Well, let's see if TLM get's 3D-ized.

I think it's great! Either way, it's the same story I fell in love with. If they were to change the story, get new voice actors and everything else while also making it 3-D, then I'd be upset. But if it's just going to be in 3-D, I think that's great! It's also a good way to introduce it to the younger generations who are growing up watching more of the Disney/Pixar movies. Not that anything's wrong with that. that's how my younger siblings are, but I just think it's nice to know and love the classics as well. :]

All I was saying is that they should add in a scene where it's made clear as to what Gaston's fate was (I doubt the skull-eye thing, which barely even lasted a second, anyways, would even be close to enough. The only time it can be seen is if you pause and do slo-mo.). Sure, if he is indeed dead, I'll be annoyed at the inconsistency with how Lefou survived even the worst of internments, among other things (Hey, I do hate Gaston, but that doesn't mean I should be happy about his death, especially if it's done in a very inconsistant manner.) but at least it will settle this debacle for good. I mean, it doesn't even have to be gory (Assuming we see him dead on the ground). I mean, Disney was able to successfully show that Mufasa was dead, killed by the Wildebeest's stampede, without having to utilize many gory elements (Which, had that been real life, would most certainly have been the case.). If they could do it with Mufasa, they can certainly do it with Gaston.

I personally am happy for this, for the most part that an old Disney movie gets put back in Theaters, instead of going directly to DVD. This could either be good or bad, but we'll only find out once we go see it.
Maybe this will lead to other movies getting this kind of treatment *prays for TLM*

Oh, no I wasn't directing it at you pokeria1, I was just saying how I feel that I wouldn't mind it getting a 3-D makeover as long as they kept the original story. What would you want them to do in order to show Gaston is in fact dead? It seemed quite for sure that he was a goner when they showed him fall down into blackness which was like surrounded by rocks and stuff. But I kind of get what you mean, most of the other Disney villains die more... obviously? Like Ursula getting impaled by the ship. Although, how did the evil Queen in Snow White die? Didn't the dwarves shove her off of a cliff too? I dunno. haha!
Anyway, I'm definitely one of those people who doesn't really like change when it comes to the Disney movies. I can barely watch the sequels because they almost always have different voice actors, and it just doesn't feel like it fits with the original story. Even when they added in "Human Again" for the new Beauty and the Beast DVD, I didn't like it. That song was written while they were working on BATB, but since I fell in love with the movie without it, it didn't feel right when they put it in. That's just me though.

Didn't the dwarves shove her off of a cliff too? I dunno. haha! Err, the Dwarves didn't exactly shove her off the cliff. Lightning did. Also, technically, she wasn't killed by the fall (not by itself anyways.), the same thunder that knocked her off the cliff also released a boulder from a cliff, which fell down with her and... well, you know what I'm getting at. As for the part involving Gaston dying, I was thinking of something similar to how the creators of the Lion King showed that Mufasa died (meaning, showing that he's quite obviously dead, but is toned down significantly so that it doesn't look extremely disturbing.). Also, I was pretty sure there was a river at the bottom (We saw a blue streak at the bottom that looked very similar to a river.). I don't recall the ravine being pitch black or having rocks with him (wait, aren't you thinking about that Viking captain's death from Gargoyles?) BTW, I was thinking of writing to Don Hahn proposing this idea. It won't be sent now, though, as I still needed to find the address of his office.

When I say rocks, I mean like a cliff. www.fanpop.com/spots/beauty-and-the-beast/images/1712898 All that rock stuff surrounding the river. I think it'd be kind of disturbing to show a lifeless Gaston floating down a river. Disney seems to like having the deaths quick and not very graphic. By showing him screaming, plummeting down into a raging river, I think it gets the point across. Anyway, that's for another thread, so I'll leave it at that.

I heard that Disney was re fliming all their movies, including TLM, in a new digital style for the release of Blu Ray. Maybe these two plans are the same? I have high hopes but knowing Disney it will either be magnificent or another "oh..well it's cool-ish..i guess.." Hopefully they'll spruce it up with more details and not make it too cartoony looking. It would be really cool if they re made it completely in the sense that everything looks the same design wise but they maybe change the camera angles for some scenes. 3D offers a good handful of opportunities 2D doesn't usually offer.
I would love to see TLM in 3D, all the detail they could add! Scales on the tails would be amazing! Hopefully this 3D thing is a step up from Mickey's Phillarmagic. While it's cool in it's own way, remaking entire feature films like I said offers the opportunity to add a lot of depth which 2D doesn't have.
