Tim Burton's--Alice in WonderlandI saw this article today. I'm really excited about this film. I think it is a great story for Tim Burton. I always liked how Alice in Wonderland is really this dark story. I can't wait to see how it turns out!

I didn't know Tim Burton was still doing live action.
I guess that's the way he's going for this one?
Any bets on whether there will be some stop-motion?

i know, i'm keeping my fingers crossed. frankly, i wasn't at all pleased with Sweeney Todd. the movie looked good but the story lacked substance, and it was quite boring

I think it is a great story for Tim Burton. I always liked how Alice in Wonderland is really this dark story. People can interpret things however they like, but that is not a fact. Just because something fun and creative has some kind of meaning or intelligent thought behind it, that doesn't mean it is full of deep, dark undertones. The story was written as a gift for a young child and surely was not supposed to frighten her. From what I've heard, this movie isn't going to be an authentic adaptation of the books, but Tim Burton's own story, featuring some of the Wonderland characters, settings and other references. I hope that is the case, because while it sounds like a rip-off to me, cashing in on the fact that the story has been practically hijacked by Gothic culture in recent years, at least there is hope that it won't add too much fuel to the misconception that the Alice books have an inentionally dark or morbid tone. In fact, it might even help to distinguish the original stories and their history from all the delusion. If you find Alice in Wonderland a dark or creepy story, that's cool and I honestly hope you enjoy this movie. Personally I find it a shame that you're missing out on the enjoyment of one of the most ingeniously funny works of fiction ever, but each to their own. Just please don't make such sweeping statements, because as someone who truly appreciates these stories and their background, it drives me mad as a March Hare.

Are you serious Daniel? I thought you knew me better than that. You know how that version of 1985/6 Alice in Wonderland is the absolute best. I have read that this isn't a remake but a story that takes place in Alice's life in the future. I do think the story has "dark" elements that have always have given the story a unique taste. There were parts in the book and in various movies that had these more psychological aspects that I found really made the story more interesting for me. That is just my interpretation and I think that is going to be the type of theme Tim Burton is going for as well. I look forward to seeing the film through his eyes. I am not a Tim Burton fan or anything like that, and I don't consider myself leaning towards gothic or dark styles of literature or film. However, the story of Alice has always been something I felt had some creepy elements which will be cool to see played out.

I don't mean to be argumentative; that's just how I feel and I wanted to get it off my chest. It wasn't meant as an attack or anything like that. I just don't like the way people are being sucked into this belief that the Alice stories are all creepiness or drug references when it's simply not true, and I would hate to see you be influenced like that when, as you say, I know you do enjoy the original stories for what they truly are. I know it's stupid that it bothers me, but I can't help that. I know it's not Alice in Candyland and I'm not suggesting it's all about singing flowers and sunshine, but I think the whole "dark story" thing is pushing it. You mentioned the 80s TV movie - even the scarier scenes in that version were added in and not taken from the books. All I'm saying is that what I hear about this new film sounds promising in that it might clear up some of the misunderstandings that surround the stories. There's enough nonsense in the books as it is!

I am speechless. Oh my gosh! It looks really amazing. But I mean, Tim Burton is an absolute genius, so I wouldn't expect any less.
And Johnny Depp... woah. Again he amazes me by completely transforming into the character. Amazing.
