It's unusual that I bought the Game Boy version before the NES version. I bought the manual too, but I had to buy that separately. And thankfully, both of them were the Capcom original, and not the late 90's reissue by Sunsoft. It's basically the same thing as the NES version, and while it's inferior graphic and soundwise, it's still fun. There's not really an official source to confirm it, but according to Wikipedia, the game was produced by Tokuro Fujiwara, who created some of Capcom's most well-known games, such as Commando, Ghosts N Goblins, and two of my all time favorites:Bionic Commando and Strider. Wikipedia also says that the music was done by the same guy that did the music for Rockman 3/Megaman 3, but again, there's not really an official source to confirm this. The way you attack enemies in this game is really unique. By the way, while we're on the subject, is the TLM game for the Nintendo DS any good?

I haven't played the TLM NES game yet. I think I might get it on Amazon, if I get the chance.
I also haven't done the DS version. Hope it does well, though it's unlikely that I'll buy that.
Personally, I think a video game that would act as the true sequel to Return to the Sea would suffice, and I'd think that an ESRB rating of E10+ at least would fit. Evidently, the game would be a bit darker in nature, and the main villain would basically be a demon who uses Ariel's shadow to maninfest "her" human form, and was sealed away at least 10,000 years prior to the events of the game, or heck, even before the Animated TV series, was responsible for the destruction of Atlantis, among other things.
I'm thinking the game engine would be similar to the "Sonic the Hedgehog" game that was released in 2006, and portions of the story (most notably Ariel's interactions and conflicts with the main villain in Act 1) would be similar to Shadow's story mode in the same game. Act 2 would basically have said main villain basically ruin Planet Earth by causing an energy wave to crash into the earth and cause an impact so destructive that most of the Earth is blotted out from the Sun, and she goes on a killing spree, a'la Mecha Sonic from Super Mario Bros Z. Prince Eric sacrifices himself during a climatic fight with the villain to save Ariel and Melody, they fight, and the battle results in Atlantica and most of the Merpeople communities destruction with a Death Ball made by the villain. The surviving denizens (aquatic animals and sapient aquatic lifeforms alike.) are teleported to a planet millions of light years away from Earth called Pokeria, and Ariel, Melody, and the king of the Misty race try and restore the Samiya sea crown and stop the demon from destroying the universe.
BTW, the main villain's name is Vanessa the Dark, and her design is supposed to be based off of Ursula's alter ego. The storyline would basically explain some details about the Merpeople/Octopid/Sharkanian origins, how Ursula turned to the dark side, among other things.
Vanessa is basically based off of Mephiles the Dark from Sonic '06 (Who in himself may be based off of Agent Smith of Matrix fame).
Well, hope this would sound like a good game for you guys.
