Last night I finally had a chance to go to see The Little Mermaid musical performed for the very first time, and it did not disappoint. Being fan of TLM for so long, and am of course familiar with the musical going into it, so I had a lot of expectations. And it was amazing!
The big highlights for me were the performance of "If Only", "Poor Unfortunate Souls", and "Under The Sea". The whole cast really did a spectacular job. Diana Huey portrayed Ariel in such a new refreshing and unique way, and her movement and charisma on stage really made me smile. Jennifer Allen's Ursula was also mesmerizing, and really owned her wardrobe and the character of Ursula in every possible way. My favorite performance would probably go to Melvin Abston who played Sebastian. Every time he was on stage he made the audience laugh.
The biggest let down for me was the removal of the song "I Want The Good Times Back", but I don't think that song is ever coming back to the musical. "Daddy's Little Angel" is still a good song.
If you have a chance to catch this musical while they're touring, I really recommend it! I had an amazing night. A TLM fan's dream come true.

They were pretty nice! Ursula had the best wardrobe and makeup from my perspective, I really loved her makeup and it really popped and commanded a presence on stage. Flounder was adorable, he has a cute poofy pants and a blue mohawk. Scuttle was also really cool and had a business vest on. The sets were pretty nice too, it was simplistic at times which I thought was cool. Though most scenes on the surface sort of had the same background, but that's okay. They're a touring group after all.

On Broadway Scuttle wore aviator goggles And of course the heely's
At a Non Broadway show in 2016 the mermaids wore dresses as did Ursula (No heely's) plus children were back ground characters

yay! I'm so glad you got to see it! I saw when the tour came through in 2015 with a different Ariel, who I personally felt was not vocally the best fit for the role but nailed it in all other respects. Diana Huey makes a super fin-tastic Ariel all around and I so wish this production was coming through my area, as it seems to be the best version of this show in a while!
