I thought it was ok, but not great. The animation and music were pretty good, and I loved learning about Athena and Ariel's childhood, but considering all the time they've been working on the movie and how long we've been waiting, it wasn't anywhere near as good as it should have been. I actually thought TLM2 was a better movie, even though the animation wasn't very good and I didn't like Melody. The best thing about TLM3 for me was Jodi returning as Ariel. I'm kinda disappointed they didn't make more of a big deal about her voice, especially seeing as this will probably be the last movie and the story was all about music. I just hope we haven't heard the last of Jodi as Ariel now! I'm glad they did such a good job with Athena. I've never been able to picture Ariel's mother in my mind, but I thought Athena was perfect. I really like her name, but it was annoying how some of the characters pronounced it the same as Attina. I hated the way they changed Flounder! I don't even want to talk about that. I agree with oceandancer about the ending being weird, but then I didn't think the movie flowed very well or made much sense at all to be honest. Anyway, I enjoyed the build up and looking forward to the movie a lot more than actually watching it, but that's cool. It's been fun and that's the main thing.

I hate being Miss Negativity, but I was really disappointed in this movie. Someone said it in either this thread or in another, that the movie felt just like another episode from the series. I felt the exact same way. There was nothing over the top about it at all. The songs weren't memorable, the characters seemed so different, and the story was boring.
Music is banned from the Kingdom? That's the whole story? Sure, they threw in some stuff about Ariel's childhood, but I thought the movie should have focused more on how Ariel falls in love with the human world. They show Athena being killed by a ship or something, and Triton is obviously horrified which sparks his hatred for humans. So, how does Ariel become so infatuated with them?
This movie was meant to be a prequel to the original Little Mermaid, and in the beginning of TLM, we find Ariel exploring a sunken ship, skipping a concert she was meant to sing in. In Ariel's Beginning, they show her being in love with music and it seemed like nothing else. It just seemed awfully dull and also very predictable.
Flounder and Sebastion seemed out of character an awful lot to me. Sebastion disobeying King Triton's laws? Really? And Flounder seemed very daring and adventurous, when in the original movie, he's considered a scared little guppy!
There's something about the animation used in all of the Disney sequels. It just looks very sloppily put together to me. The original movie was SO much more detailed, and it looked like the people working on it actually cared. There was also a disappointing lack of bubbles, I noticed.
I'm so sorry, this is not meant to offend anyone at all. I'm simply expressing my opinion, and as I have stated before, I am a firm supporter of the originals and am against sequels. The only sequels that I have liked and am glad was made was Toy Story II. All of the others upset me because they do not compliment the originals at all.
Everyone is to their own opinion though, right? So, those who enjoyed this movie, I respect that and won't debate things about it. Just saying that I did not like it. Right after watching it I popped in TLM and it was quite refreshing to see the detail and care put into that movie. I realized that I don't sing along to the songs from TLM2 or Ariel's Beginning, they just didn't hold that same spark.
I apologize again, there's just so much more I want to say and talk about, but I promise I'm finished now. *deep breath*

Don't apologize for your opinions Emily! It's okay if you didn't like the movie, we all have different tastes!
I thought the animation was great, (very good for a sequel, and I thought it was nice how they seemed to keep the dark colors of the original movie and not make everything too bright.), but that's my opinion.
I'll probably end up buying it because I thought it wasn't all that bad and it's TLM related. (And, well, I really liked Benjamin and I'd love to make myself a doll of him because I like sewing characters and I've got a bunch of material laying around I need to start using. I'd also like to try and make the pink seahorse Ariel's sisters were fighting over. It was really cute!)
The ending made me laugh, too. Benjamin doing the samba. Hey, I just realized:Why did he have to be put in jail too? Hmph! That's not fair.
Did anyone watch the special feature about the Broadway Musical? There's no way I'd get to go see it in person, so I just loved that part of the dvd. (I've got a couple of the songs from the show on my computer, and I've gotta say I almost like Sierra's version of 'Part of That World' more then the original! I listen to it all the time, it's crazy. She's got an amazing voice.)
While I'm going on again, I gotta say I didn't like how they changed Flounder's personality either. (I've developed a fondness for him recently.) And, oh, man, the beat boxing! How obnoxious! Flounder should not be obnoxious!
Another thing I didn't like was the extreme change to Samuel Wright's voice. I don't know if it's his age or what, but when I was listening to the opening narration, I could've sworn it wasn't him doing Sabastian's voice! I really thought it was someone else and that they were doing a really bad job of it! I was shocked to see I was wrong and was like "What happened?!" It was so wierd.
Ariel's sisters personalities also seemed pretty one demensional. It's good that they were fleshed out and I know that they only had so much time in the movie, but they didn't strike me as very realistic, or something along those lines.

Well I was glad to see the animation has improved since TLM2 and it was enjoyable for what would be considered a long episode from the show. The songs were okay but not as memorable as the original film. I was glad that the sisters got more screen time and some personality but as someone said, they seemed one demensional.
I absolutly HATED how they changed Flounder's personality and even how he and Ariel met felt really rushed that I don't see how they could have been best friends just from watching this movie. I think that annoyed me more than anything in the movie. I really wish there were more connections to the first movie and I kept hoping there might have been the slightest mention of Ursula just for backstory but there wasn't. The only thing that seemed to connet to the orginial was that they made Sebastian court composer.
But for the most part I enojyed it even if I was disappointed with some things.

Obnoxious pretty much sums up Flounder in that movie. Apparently the character we know and love isn't cool enough any more.

I just hope we haven't heard the last of Jodi as Ariel now! Don't worry,I"m sure they"ll always made new Little Mermaid/Disney Princess CD/songs and we"ll hear more of Jodi as Ariel, don't forget we still have Ariel's Enchanted Tales and I"m pretty sure that there will be more Princess DVDs.

I guess. I don't really like the Princess stuff though. Enchanted Tales look pretty bad to me.

I guess we are to assume that between Ariel's Beginning and TLM, Flounder was subjected to some horrific event that caused him to have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and that's why is so scared.

I guess. I don't really like the Princess stuff though. Enchanted Tales look pretty bad to me. Oh, you shoulg give them a go! They are sweet, and if you accept them for what they are, then you may enjoy it But my advice would be to watch Jasmine's Enchanted Tale first though; it really is a triumph I feel! The songs, Jasmine herself, the back story with her mother ... its really good! The Aurora one is ok, but its more along the lines of Cindy II. Jasmine's one feels like a real continuation of the film.

I guess we are to assume that between Ariel's Beginning and TLM, Flounder was subjected to some horrific event that caused him to have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and that's why is so scared. But it's not just the scared thing. In the original movie, TV series and everything else, he has that amazing friendly, kind and loyal personality, but in TLM3 he was just stupid and annoying! Oh, you shoulg give them a go! They are sweet, and if you accept them for what they are, then you may enjoy it But my advice would be to watch Jasmine's Enchanted Tale first though; it really is a triumph I feel! Jasmine's one feels like a real continuation of the film. I didn't even like Aurora or Jasmine in their original movies because they were too prissy, so I'm pretty sure their Princess Enchanted Tales wouldn't be my cup of tea! You're right, I should probably give them a chance though.

I guess. I don't really like the Princess stuff though. Enchanted Tales look pretty bad to me. Why not? but without the Princess,we whouldn't have great songs like Ariel's Christmas Island or Christmas In The Ocean,I also loved Manners And Etiquettes. I agree with Princess Of The Sea,and Enchanted Tales are great, you have to admit it's at least better then Return To The Sea. I agree, thought Aurora's tale was better then Cinderella II and I liked both of the stories. But Cinderella II isn't really bad,it's cute stories about Cinderella not horros like Little Mermaid II or Pocahontas II.

I was just looking through these comments again and I'm kinda sad to see people expressing their disappointment that the movie felt like an episode of the TV series. I think that's a huge injustice to the series, at least the first season, which in my opinion was better written than TLM3, with more imaginative stories and well designed new characters (including villains), complimented the feeling of the first movie and maintained (sometimes even building on) the true personalities of the original characters. It was generally more fun and entertaining! If what you're saying is that the storyline seems more suitable for a TV episode than a movie, then I agree, but I think to say that TLM3 and the TV series are on the same level is unfair, especially when you compare the amount of time spent on the movie and each episode of the series.

Hey all - I enjoyed TLM3 for what it was - I know Flounder was rathre annoying - I loved Benjamin. A shame Athena never thought about her husband and her 7 daughters BEFORE that music box, but they did a great job on her. I'm annalyzing too much here but if there was a threat of pirates getting too close to the mer royal family - where were all the body guards ! lol.
A thought on some of you wishing Ursula being in it - i wonder if they could've made a thinner Ursula the governess instead of Marina - then her using black magic or something could've been a reason for Triton banishing her.
I do not like how in the broadway musical it's hinted at Ursula and Triton being brother and sister !!

I wouldn't worry. Morgana's appearence in TLM 2 pretty much makes it impossible for that storyline to carry over to the films.
Anyway, I loved TLM3 to pieces. (Although I am a little bitter about not getting my Eric cameo).

"Flounder not being flounder"
You are so right ariellover89, maybe we should assume that Ariel and her adventures did in fact turn him into a fraidy cat. Maybe one too many run ins with Triton and that Shark have turned him into a wuss by the time of the actual movie.
