You know just thinking of my favourite parts and scenes of Ariel I now just finally realized that my fav ones are when she's in the palace and around the coastal town.
Maybe it's because she's living out her dreams, her dresses are so lovely, or that she's so amazingly inquisitive and cute (especially in her mistakes)?
But there's also another reason perhaps?
This is pure animation. There is no voice. And because of this, these scenes are only watchable with my undivided attention. Unlike other scenes what I could listen to while I'm doing something else or allowing my mind to wander - these scenes must be watched with full captivation.

In the whole franchise (movies, series, comics, etc) the second half of the first film takes the most time to explore the human world of the little mermaid. I think it's one of the things that makes the original film so unique, and Ariel's interaction with it is so memorable the first time around. Also makes a nice comeback to the initial criticism of the idea.
