From Inquisitr: May 1, 2020 ‘The Little Mermaid’ Star Halle Bailey And Her Sister Chloe Amaze Fans With ‘Savage’ Mashup Chloe x Halle combined Beyonce and Megan Thee Stallion's 'Savage' Remix with songs by Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj.
The Little Mermaid star Halle Bailey and her sister, Chloe, mashed up Megan Thee Stallion’s hit song “Savage” with a few other big hits by popular female artists to create a new music sensation.
On Friday, the two sisters, who perform under the name Chloe x Halle, took to their joint Instagram page to share their masterpiece of a mashup with their 2.4 million followers. The talented siblings were sitting next to each other on a couch, and they were backing up their ethereal, velvety vocals with two instruments. Halle, 20, was strumming a guitar, while Chloe, 21, played a mini keyboard controller that included eight small drum pads.
For their home performance, Chloe rocked a pink one-shoulder crop top. The garment was constructed out of shiny velvet. The singer was also wearing a pair of matching skintight bike shorts.
Halle was sporting a pink tube top and a pair of dark gray sweatpants. She was wearing her thick locs down, while Chloe had hers pulled back. Both sisters were sporting glamorous beauty looks that included brown matte lipstick, shimmery eye shadow, and long fluttery eyelashes.
The sisters seamlessly blended four songs together. They began by softly singing a few bars of Megan Thee Stallion and Beyonce’s new “Savage” remix, including its viral chorus and some of Megan’s new lines.
“Bougie. He said the way that thing move, it’s a movie,” the women crooned. “Told that boy gotta keep it low, leave the room key.”
Next, the sisters belted out a few lyrics from two Doja Cat songs, “Say So” and “Juicy.” The final song the girls sampled with their smooth, silvery voices was “Yikes” by Nicki Minaj.
In the caption of their post, Chloe and Halle promoted “Catch Up,” their new single featuring Swae Lee.

As of this writing, Chloe and Halle’s performance has racked up over 280,000 likes and 8,000 comments. The sisters’ fans couldn’t stop gushing over how incredible their masterful music mashup was. Many of them begged the singers to release a full version of the song.
“You not think we deserve a full version? This is not fair,” read one response to their video.

From The Whisp: CELEBRITY 20 Awesome Facts About Little Mermaid Star Halle Bailey
By Kristy Pirone
Forget the haters, Halle Bailey is the perfect choice to play Ariel in Disney's upcoming live-action The Little Mermaid. Halle has accomplished more at 19 years old than most of us will in our entire lives as one-half of the musical duo Chloe x Halle, Beyoncé's Grammy-nominated protégés, without losing a modicum of her youthful innocence and charm. Halle has done so much in so little time, it's hard to keep track of her long list of accomplishments, which have prepared her to take on this historic role of a lifetime.
SHE’S ATLANTA-BORN, LOS ANGELES-BASED
Halle and her family moved out West from Atlanta, Georgia sometime around late-2012, when the singer was in her early teens. She told Time Magazine that the Baileys instantly fell in love with Los Angeles's shining sun, noting that the constant supply of Vitamin D makes you a happier person. Her parents made the decision to move Halle and her siblings to California because it was better for Chloe and Halle's careers in the music industry, which were just beginning to take off.
SHE WENT TO A NORMAL HIGH SCHOOL
While her sister and collaborator Chloe Bailey chose to get her GED, Halle graduated from a real, brick and mortar high school in June 2018. Chloe praised her sister on their shared Twitter account for balancing school and her career, including their two EPs, their Grammy-nominated debut album, two opening slots on world tours, and a recurring role on Freeform's Grown-ish. Chloe also included a video of Halle celebrating set to their song "Grown" and a picture of Halle's cap decorated with a photo of Billie Holiday, her siblings, and her debut album cover. You know, normal high school stuff.
HALLE IS THE YOUNGEST OF THREE SISTERS
Contrary to popular belief, Chloe and Halle aren't twins. Solidly a member of Gen-Z, Halle was born in 2000 and is the youngest of three sisters. The oldest Bailey sister, Ski, stays out of the limelight and seems to be doing her own thing, but the girls told Rolling Stone that Ski filmed their very first YouTube cover way back when Halle was only eight years old. Halle isn't the youngest Bailey sibling, though. Their younger brother, Branson, was born in 2005.
SHE GOT HER START ON YOUTUBE
Chloe and Halle began their careers when they were just eleven and eight years old, respectively, by posting covers on YouTube in 2008. Their cover of Beyoncé's "Pretty Hurts" went viral five years later and became the inciting factor in their steep rise to fame, but the duo has never stopped releasing homemade covers, even taking a break during rehearsals for their opening slot in the On The Run II tour to make an ethereal version of Drake's "In My Feelings." It seems like they've never deleted a performance from their official YouTube account, with videos dating all the way back to the very beginning.
CHLOE X HALLE’S “PRETTY HURTS” COVER WAS NOTICED BY QUEEN B HERSELF
Speaking of their star-making "Pretty Hurts" YouTube cover, Beyoncé herself discovered the video, which now has over seventeen million views on the video sharing site. Chloe told People Magazine that Queen B's company, Parkwood Entertainment, sent them an email two weeks after they posted it. Two days later, on January 2, 2014, their father spoke with Parkwood and discovered that Beyoncé wanted to sign them to her record label. Instead of taking a hands-off approach to their development, Beyoncé became a friend and mentor to the young artists, allowing them to create their own sounds while providing advice.
THE DUO IS SIGNED TO BEYONCÉ’S PARKWOOD ENTERTAINMENT LABEL
Cosmo goes even further into these heroes' origin story, explaining that it was Beyoncé's manager who came across the girls' videos and passed them along to the mega-star. Their Parkwood Entertainment contract is worth one million dollars and allows for up to six albums over the course of five years. Those five years are almost up, but we have no doubt that the girls will be re-upping their deal with their longtime mentor. Earn The Necklace reported that this wasn't the first recording contract offered to Chloe x Halle, but that previous contracts had unfavorable terms and the girls worship at the altar of Queen Bey.
SHE MADE A CAMEO IN BEYONCÉ’S LEMONADE VISUAL ALBUM
Chloe x Halle were there when their mentor made Black Girl Magic happen during her Lemonade visual album, becoming part of the iconic Louisiana tableau featuring Amandla Stenberg, Zendaya, and the French recording duo Ibeyi, comprised of twins Lisa-Kainde and Naomi Diaz. Chloe x Halle also appeared earlier during the "Resurrection" chapter for the "All Night" introduction. Just because they're tight with Queen B doesn't mean they weren't totally starstruck during the shoot, telling Revolt that they were crying and fangirling as they watched their mentor's vision come together.
HALLE PLAYS THE GUITAR
Fans of Chloe x Halle's videos have probably noticed Halle accompanying their covers on guitar, but she's also provided the guitar instrumentals on their self-made EPs and debut album. Halle learned how to play by watching YouTube tutorials, and although Halle still considers herself an amateur guitar player, her always-supportive sister wasted no time praising Halle's"incredible guitar acrobatics" to Rolling Stone. Halle has been playing the instrument for nearly seven years and looks to Lenny Kravitz and Jimmy Hendrix for inspiration.
CHLOE X HALLE OPENED FOR BEYONCÉ’S FORMATION & ON THE RUN II WORLD TOURS
A nice perk of having Beyoncé on your side is the unreal performance opportunities. The girls opened for Beyoncé during the European leg of her Formation World Tour in 2016, playing for up to 75,000 fans only three months after releasing their first EP for Beyoncé's Parkwood Entertainment label. Bey brought them back in 2018 for her On the Run II Tour, opening alongside DJ Khaled for the tour's entire North American leg. This time, their largest audience was a whopping 106,550 fans, again three months after the duo released their first album in March 2018.
AND THEY OPENED FOR MICHELLE OBAMA’S SXSW KEYNOTE
Beyoncé isn't Chloe x Halle's only superstar fan. Former First Lady Michelle Obama found the duo through her daughters, Malia and Sasha Obama, and has since worked with the pair for her charity single "This is For My Girls" alongside Missy Elliot, Kelly Rowland, and Janelle Monáe in support of the Let Girls Learn campaign. Chloe x Halle have also performed live for the FLOTUS twice, first as the opening act to her SXSW keynote. After meeting the girls at the festival, Michelle insisted that the White House Easter Egg Roll schedule be rearranged to include the sisters, who were the only act she personally introduced. Oh, and the girls were able to perform at Barack Obama's White House after a surprise visit from Beyoncé and Blue Ivy during Halle's sixteenth birthday weekend.
HALLE CALLS BILLIE HOLIDAY ONE OF HER BIGGEST VOCAL INFLUENCES
Halle has always been interested in the classics, specifically when it comes to jazz music. She told Time Magazine that the great Billie Holiday has been one of her biggest vocal influences since she was five years old because of her ability to emit pure love, joy, and relaxation. While Chloe brings 808s, modern trills, and alternative influences to their music, Halle contributes classic melodies inspired by Billie, which leads to the duo's dichotomous, different sound on their debut album, The Kids Are Alright.
ROLLING STONE CALLED HER EP THE TWO OF US ONE OF THE BEST R&B ALBUMS OF 2017
Rolling Stone put the fledgling artists' first mixtape The Two of Us on their list of the top twenty R&B albums of 2017, citing their "spectral harmonies" and sisterly instincts in tracks like "Tra Ta Ta" and "Poppy Flower" as an exciting new direction for soul music on the stylistically unbound piece. In an amusing bit of foreshadowing, Halle is rocking a mermaid tale on The Two of Us's cover, an unexpected harbinger of things yet to come.
SHE MODELED FOR RODARTE’S FW18 LOOKBOOK
Halle hasn't only been wildly successful in music and television, she's also thrived as a model for Rodarte's FW18 lookbook alongside Ava Phillipe, Grimes, and close friend Rowan Blanchard. The sister act told Net-A-Porter their foray into fashion hit close to home as they modeled for a fashion label run by sibling Kate and Laura Mulleavy, whose on-set interactions reminded Halle of her experiences working with Chloe in male-dominated rooms, as they simultaneously gas each other up while needing to communicate about their shared creative visions.
SHE’S A SERIES REGULAR ON GROWN-ISH
Chloe x Halle wrote and recorded the theme song for fellow Gen-Z trailblazer Yara Shahidi's Freeform series Grown-ish, a spin-off of her hit family sitcom Black-ish, before joining the cast as recurring guest stars. They were promoted to series regulars by the second season, which seemed like a no-brainer considering they've appeared on every episode of the series, which was already renewed for a third season before even concluding its second. Funnily enough, it's Chloe who's had more acting experience out of the two sisters, appearing in three movies with Halle and three without her, including a role in The Fighting Temptations where she appeared as a younger version of Beyoncé's character nearly a decade before the singer discovered her videos on YouTube.
BUT THE LITTLE MERMAID WILL BE HER SOLO FILM DEBUT
Despite a handful of bit parts alongside her sister, this will be Halle's first solo film (although, not her film debut, as Variety erroneously reported). She appeared as a choir member in Let It Shine and Joyful Noise in 2012 and was briefly seen in The Last Holiday in 2006, but Halle hasn't been in a feature film for nearly seven years, let alone as a leading role. The Little Mermaid will be Halle's second acting role without her sister, following one episode on House of Payne in 2007.
CHLOE X HALLE WROTE & EXECUTIVE PRODUCED THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT
As Entertainment Weekly noted, Chloe x Halle's debut album, The Kids Are Alright, was entirely written and executive produced by the duo, a feat only accomplished by a handful of artists during their careers. The girls record their music from a home studio and churned out so many songs for the album that some had to be repurposed as their The Two of Us mixtape, which was also exclusively written and produced by the sisters. Even their album rejects ended up being critically lauded.
AND THEY SANG AT SUPER BOWL LIII
Chloe x Halle opened 2019's Super Bowl LIII alongside seven-time Grammy winner Gladys Knight, who sang the National Anthem. Our girls performed "America The Beautiful" during the Super Bowl kickoff, which was viewed by 98.2 million people based on Nielson estimates in addition to the 70,000 fans in attendance at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and the nearly 975,000 people who have watched their performance on YouTube. After having to perform live for an audience larger than the populations of 218 countries, her Little Mermaid role should be a breeze.
HER SONGS HAVE BEEN FEATURED IN A WRINKLE IN TIME, TROLLS, LITTLE, AND FOR THE THRONE
As part of Chloe x Halle, Halle's music has been featured on five soundtracks, beginning with "Bougie Party" for Netflix's Dear White People. They also contributed to the soundtrack for A Wrinkle in Time after being approached by director Ava DuVernay, according to NPR. After deciding none of their previously recorded songs were right for the film, the girls put together "Warrior" in an hour and sent it over to Ava, who included it in the film after asking the duo to make it more cinematic. The girls have also contributed to the soundtracks for Trolls, Little, and the Game of Thrones Season Eight album For The Throne.
SHE’S CLOSE FRIENDS WITH FELLOW GEN-Z ICONS ROWAN BLANCHARD, WILLOW SMITH, AND YARA SHAHIDI
A shining example of Gen-Z excellence, Halle is close friends with many of her peers including Rowan Blanchard, Willow Smith, and co-star Yara Shahidi, all of whom have made waves as outspoken young advocates for change and gifted artists. Rowan appeared in Chloe x Halle's music video for "Warrior," their first movie placement which also happened to be in ~her~ film, A Wrinkle In Time, while Chloe and Halle have done tons of press with Yara for their series, Grown-ish. As for Willow, all you need to do is peep the girls' Instagram comments to see plenty of love shared between the young black icons.
SHE CHATTED WITH TIME MAGAZINE ABOUT YOUNG BLACK REPRESENTATION *LONG* BEFORE HER HISTORIC CASTING
Halle has become a topic of national conversation after her historic casting as the first woman of color to play Ariel, a fictional mermaid who could be portrayed by anyone regardless of their race because she is a fictional mermaid. Why people are ~surprised~ that a film with Lin Manuel-Miranda on its creative team would feature diverse casting is beyond us, but Halle spoke with Time about the recent wave of roles for young women of color in Hollywood long before she knew she'd become one of its biggest triumphs. Halle commented that she thinks the trend is beautiful because when young girls of color see themselves represented, they feel empowered to create their own art and be confident in themselves.

From Deadline: UK Government Says TV & Film Shoots Can Resume Once Producers Put Safety Plans In Place
By Jake Kanter
May 12, 2020 3:38am
EXCLUSIVE: The UK government has given the green light for high-end TV and film productions to resume shooting as soon as employers have put in place coronavirus safety measures, Deadline understands.
British prime minister Boris Johnson told the nation on Sunday that people who can’t work from home should return to their jobs as soon as possible, once workplaces are “COVID-19 secure.”
The government has not been specific over whether this advice applies to shuttered high-end film and TV sets, but it is understood that the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport is now encouraging the industry to return to work.
The change of position after seven weeks of lockdown could be a boost for the thousands of industry professionals who have lost work as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, as well as the production companies impacted by the filming hiatus.
Although news, unscripted and entertainment TV shows have continued to be made, countless big-budget scripted projects have been derailed by the crisis in the UK, including hit TV dramas Peaky Blinders, Sex Education, Call The Midwife, Line Of Duty and The Witcher, and features such as The Batman and Little Mermaid.
A DCMS spokeswoman said: “The government is working closely with the screen sector to understand how different types of productions can comply with social distancing guidelines, and give confidence to people in the TV and film industries that there are safe ways in which they can return to work.
Getting production back on its feet will be fraught with complication and will change shoots beyond recognition. There are also issues over insurance, which will need to be resolved before filming can be resumed.
The British Film Commission has been feeding into government plans by drafting industry-wide safety protocols for high-end UK film and TV shoots. Obtained by Deadline, the draft guidelines are designed to keep sets safe from coronavirus by introducing measures including pre-shoot safety training, testing and quarantining foreign actors.
The so-called Film And TV Production Codes Of Practice are currently undergoing a period of industry consultation until Friday, after which the guidelines will be finalized. They are designed to be scalable for productions of different sizes and can be used alongside company-specific protocols.

As kids, we always wondered about the existence of mermaids; well, some of us still do it now. We cannot say much about the existence of mermaids, but hey mermaid fans, we have some good news for you.
Our favorite mermaid, Ariel, with her iconic red hair, is coming back on the big screen. Nostalgic much? Cause same.
Disney Media’s Franchise, The Little Mermaid, has been officially adapted into a Live-Action film. Cast and Crew of The Little Mermaid.
The Little Mermaid live-action movie is being directed by the winner of the Directors Guild of America Award, Robert Marshall. He is known for directing the fourth chapter of Pirates of the Caribbean.
Spanish actor Javier Bardem will most probably play the role of King Triton. The voice of Sebastian will be Daveed Diggs, American songwriter, and wrapper. The role of Ariel’s love interest, Prince Eric, will be played by Jonah Hauer-King, and Melissa McCarthy will play the role of Ursula.

From AJC: Atlanta’s Chloe x Halle preview new single, launch song challenge
Atlanta Buzz Blog 2 hours ago
By Kiersten Willis, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The sisters’ new single, ‘Do It,’ drops Friday
Chloe x Halle are gearing up to release a new song on Friday and, leading up to its release, they’ve issued a challenge to fellow performers.
On Instagram on Tuesday, the crooning Atlanta sisters shared a TikTok video of them singing their single “Do It.” Harmonizing and snapping their fingers, Chloe and Halle Bailey had a call-and-response moment toward the end of the brief clip.

After encouraging fans to presave the tune via an in-bio link, the duo then called on “all our singers out there” to“try this singing challenge with a friend.”
Singers responded, and the duo sahred some of the submissions in their Instagram Story that day.
Meanwhile, nonsingers remained in awe of the R&B duo’s talent.
“Imagine having amazing voices like these?!” a fan said on Instagram.
Another commented, “Y’all sound amazingly beautiful.”
Twitter users also praised the Bailey sisters’ vocals.

The siblings are also fresh off their appearance on ABC’s “The Disney Family Singalong: Volume II,” on which the 21- and 20-year-old belted out “Almost There.”
Joined Sunday night by Broadway star Anika Noni Rose, who played Princess Tiana in the film, the singers performed the tune from the 2009 film “The Princess and the Frog.”
It’s especially good for Halle Bailey, as she has been cast as Ariel in a live-action adaptation of “The Little Mermaid.” When the news broke last year, it sparked backlash online. But Halle Bailey told Variety in August that she wasn’t focused on the negativity.
“I feel like I'm dreaming and I'm just grateful and I don't pay attention to the negativity,” she said. “I just feel like this role was something bigger than me and greater and it's going to be beautiful. I'm just so excited to be a part of it.”

From CheatSheet: Disney Fans Worry the Coronavirus Pandemic May Have Impacted the Production Schedule of the Live-Action 'The Little Mermaid' Julia Dzurillay
May 14, 2020
Disney movies make social distancing a little bit easier. With coronavirus affecting the premiere (and production) of Disney content, fans are wondering what that means for the company’s recently announced remake of The Little Mermaid.
When will Disney’s live-action version of The Little Mermaid premiere? Here’s what we know about the studios’ upcoming reboot.
Disney is making a live-action adaptation of ‘The Little Mermaid’
Hot off the heels of The Lion King, Dumbo, Lady and the Tramp and Aladdin, Disney announced the next classic film getting a remake. This one will star Halle Bailey as the bubbly, passionate, and spirited title character, Ariel, in a live-action version of the 1989 animated movie, The Little Mermaid.
“After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance—plus a glorious singing voice—all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,” director Rob Marshall said in a statement, according to Glamour.
However, with coronavirus impacting the theatrical release Disney’s live-action adaptation of Mulan, some fans are wondering what that means for movies like The Little Mermaid and Bambi, both of which the studio announced would be getting reboots in the coming years.
Some report ‘The Little Mermaid’ was to start production during early 2020
Disney may have announced Halle Bailey as the starring actress in their live-action reboot, but the details surrounding the upcoming adaptation of The Little Mermaid are still a little fuzzy. According to Oprah Magazine, the production was set to begin during early 2020. According to Radio Times, “filming and production are rumored to start in April 2020.”
Presumably, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, production has since been brought to a halt. Disney+ original shows like The Mandalorian season 2 and movies like Marvel’s Black Widow wrapped before restrictions began. However, the pandemic has since impacted the theatrical release of some films.
This, in turn, impacts the timeline by which Disney, (in addition to Marvel and Pixar,) will release their content. However, Disney has not come forward to discuss the status of this live-action adaptation. There’s no official premiere date, nor is there an official cast list available to fans.
That is, aside from the title character, some leading roles have been announced by the studio, including Awkwafina as Scuttle and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric. Melissa McCarthy is still “in talks” to portray the sea witch, Ursula.
In the meantime, fans can watch the original ‘The Little Mermaid’ on Disney+
The upcoming version of The Little Mermaid may be a few years away, some predicting it could debut during November 2021. Still, fans can stream other movies starring Ariel and her friends on Disney’s subscription service, Disney+.
