From Insider: Disney has 21 movies coming out in 2021 — Here they all are Kirsten Acuna Nov 3, 2020, 2:31 PM
Walt Disney Studios is releasing 21 movies in 2021. The majority of the films may sound familiar as Disney pushed back a number of its releases due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "Black Widow," "Eternals," and "Jungle Cruise" are a few of the films now mixed in with 2021 releases. Visit Insider's homepage for more stories.
Disney has plenty of movies to look forward to in 2021.
It's not just Marvel, live-action remakes, and animated films that will hopefully be coming to theaters. After its 2019 acquisition of Fox's entertainment arm, Disney also has plenty of movies from 20th Century Fox (now 20 Century Studios) and Searchlight Pictures, including a "Bob's Burgers" animated film.
If the release schedule looks like you're experiencing déjà vu, you're not wrong. Many of these movies from "Black Widow" to "Jungle Cruise" were previously set for release in 2020 and have been pushed back one or multiple times due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Here's Disney and Fox's release schedule for next year as it currently stands. We'll continue to update this as it evolves.
Untitled live-action Disney movie — TBD
Disney will continue its Disney renaissance remakes with "The Little Mermaid." Disney, composite by Kirsten Acuna/INSIDER
The live-action version of "The Little Mermaid" doesn't have a release date yet, but if we had to bet on when this live-action film could be released, it could certainly be December 17.
Singer Halle Bailey from the sister-singing duo Chloe x Halle was cast in the role of Ariel in July 2019.
The remake will include original songs and new ones from Alan Menken and "Hamilton" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda.

A remake of The Little Mermaid is in development. Disney is nowadays making many live-action remakes of its animated films. The studio already released new films of The Jungle Book, Aladdin, Maleficent, The Lion King, and many more. Now we are happy that we will see a live-action version of The Little Mermaid. Plans for a live-action film appeared back in 2016. The production for the film began this year but soon delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic. The production will take more time to start. It is confirmed that the filming will start from late November/early December 2020. The delay in the production also affected the release of the movie. Now fans have to wait more for the upcoming Disney film.
The upcoming film is now in the pre-production phase. A release date is not set for the live-action The Little Mermaid movie, but we expect it to release in the theaters in 2022.

Story Details For The Little Mermaid
The live-action remake of The Little Mermaid will be inspired by the classic animated film. So, The Little Mermaid is the story of a young mermaid called Ariel who enters into a Faustian bargain with a Sea Witch to become human and earn the love of a human prince. It is not known how much the upcoming movie will take material from the animated film, or we can see new things in it. We will soon return with more updates.

From The DisInsider: Disney’s Live-Action ‘The Little Mermaid’ Looking to Start Production Late November or Early December Skyler Shuler on November 6, 2020
A few weeks ago on our exclusive Patreon podcast The DisInsider Show, I revealed that Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid was looking to start production before the end of the year. Well, the star of the film may have confirmed my reveal.
During a Thursday night live stream on Halle Bailey and Chloe Bailey’s Instagram account, the duo revealed they only have a couple more live streams left before Halle has to leave for London, where The Little Mermaid will be filming, some of the crew is already out there.
I would imagine production on the film will likely kick off in December after the holiday, the cast and crew may go through quick rehearsals before filming not to mention, follow proper health and safety protocols. That said, we can’t rule out a late November start. The film was just days away from filming back in March until the COVID-19 outbreak caused the studio to close production, sending the cast and crew back home. Filming was expected to resume this Summer but was pushed to accommodate McCarthy’s filming on the Hulu limited series, Nine Perfect Strangers.
Halle Bailey leads the film as Ariel, with Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, also set to star is Melissa McCarthy as the villainous Sea Witch Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Awkwafina as Scuttle, and Emily Coates in unconfirmed role.
Directed by Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides), the film will feature music from the 1989 animated classic as well as four brand-new songs. Menken has teased that those songs will consist of new ones for both King Triton (Bardem) and Scuttle (Awkwafina), we also hear Prince Eric will get his own song as well, and that another will feature a duo between both Ariel and Eric.

From Inside The Magic: Live-Action ‘Little Mermaid’ to Begin Production in Next Few Weeks IN DISNEY, MOVIES & TV
Posted on November 7, 2020 by Rebekah Barton Leave a comment

When rumors of a Walt Disney Studios live-action The Little Mermaid adaptation first started circulating in 2016, fans of the original 1989 animated feature film were abuzz with excitement.
Credit: Disney
Now, after years of cast and crew announcements — Lin-Manuel Miranda and Marc Platt were confirmed as producers in 2016, Rob Marshall was confirmed as director in 2018, and Melissa McCarthy (Ursula), Halle Bailey (Ariel), Jacob Tremblay (Flounder), Jonah Hauer-King (Prince Eric), Awkwafina (Scuttle), and Daveed Diggs (role unknown) were cast throughout 2019 — production is finally set to get underway in the next few weeks!
Originally, the live-action version of the The Little Mermaid was slated to begin shooting in March — sets had already been constructed at London’s Pinewood Studios — but production was abandoned amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Now, a Halle Bailey Instagram fan account has shared a live stream in which Halle indicates that she will be leaving in a couple of weeks to begin shooting in London.
The caption reads:
Chloe and Halle just did a live stream and they pretty much confirmed Production on little mermaid stars soon saying they only have a couple of live streams left. So I’m assuming it’s probably gonna start in December. Remember we already confirmed the choreographer for the film is already in London so there is work being done behind the scenes and actors just have to arrive 🤔. It also seems Chloe is not going with her, at least for the beginning. So happy to have some kind of confirmation 😭 now we wait for more news
Like all other movies that have restarted production amid the ongoing pandemic, there are undoubtedly a number of health and safety protocols in-place to keep cast and crew members safe on set.
At this time, no official release date for the live-action Little Mermaid adaptation has been released.

From EW: His Dark Materials gave Lin-Manuel Miranda 'new perspective' on adapting Kingkiller Chronicle
"It's a code that's waiting to be cracked," the auteur says of the planned TV series. By Nick Romano November 11, 2020 at 11:41 AM EST
The Kingkiller Chronicle is "still a code that's waiting to be cracked," Lin-Manuel Miranda tells EW of the long development process for the TV series adaptation.
Author Patrick Rothfuss' books, starting with The Name of the Wind, was heading to Showtime in 2017 as a planned fantasy drama with Miranda on board as one of the executive producers. Lionsgate had acquired the rights in 2015 with hopes to develop not just this show, but a movie and videogame, as well. The network has since dropped the project and has been shopped around since. The good news is that Miranda shares that they are still trying to crack the code of this material, and that working on His Dark Materials, a different kind of fantasy series based on a book trilogy, has offered him "new perspective."
"I've gained new perspective on it, having been able to be a part of this other fantasy franchise and seeing how, 'Oh man, we did eight hours of story and we still didn't get all of the first book in there. What hope does a movie have?!' The answer is none," Miranda explains in an interview ahead of the U.S. premiere of His Dark Materials season 2 on HBO and HBO Max. "The real answer is a director and a script with a vision, that is a different thing [than the book] because you can't get all of Pat's incredible book into one movie, and I don't know if you can get it into one series. But it is an incredible world worth exploring, but it hasn't been cracked yet."
Rothfuss' Kingkiller Chronicle tells of Kvothe, who one day becomes his world's most notorious wizard but he begins as an adventuring musician. John Rogers (Leverage) was set to write the pilot episode and serve as showrunner for the planned adaptation.
Miranda — as busy as he ever is juggling writing, producing, composing, directing, and acting— returns as aeronaut Lee Scoresby in His Dark Materials, which adapts the events of author Philip Pullman's The Subtle Knife in season 2. Premiering in the States this Sunday, Nov. 16, the new batch of episodes honors the "disorientation" that's in the books, Miranda says. "We have spent the whole first book in this very richly imagined world and then Book 2 starts and you're in a completely different universe," he explains of his experience reading Pullman's trilogy. "You start to get a glimpse of how big and epic the scope of this story is gonna be. I think season 2 of our show honors that, that disorientation that we're gonna spend time in different universes."
That show, which introduced the concept of daemons as the physical manifestation of human souls that exist outside the body as talking animals, is also a complex, fantastical world to The Kingkiller Chronicle. Witnessing this "process of adaptation" with lead executive producer Jane Tranter and writer Jack Thorne was "fascinating," Miranda continues. "Even with seven hours of TV, it still doesn't feel like we got all of it."
In terms of the multitude of other projects on his plate, Miranda says, "I'm writing scores for two animated musicals, one for Sony and one for Disney."
Vivo, the one for Sony he estimates is now "10 years in the making," tells of a music-loving capuchin monkey who makes a treacherous journy from Havana to Miami. "It's in amazing shape," Miranda notes, "and Quiara [Alegría Hudes], my cowriter on [In the] Heights, is working on the screenplay with Kirk [De Micco], our director." For the Disney animated musical, the Colombia-set Encanto, Miranda says, "It's been so exciting because with Moana it was the joy of my life but I was the last guy hired. And with this I've been in on the ground floor. To be in on the development of an original Disney musical is such a thrill."
Miranda says he also finished composing the songs for Disney's live-action The Little Mermaid with Alan Menken before the pandemic-prompted lockdowns hit in March. "I can't wait for [the cast] to get back to work because they hadn't started rolling when everything closed down," he mentioned. "So, I'm hoping they start in earnest at the top of next year."

From InsideTheMagic: ‘Princess and the Frog’ Actress Praises Halle Bailey, Yara Shahidi on Disney Roles IN DISNEY, MOVIES
Posted on November 18, 2020 by TJ Muscaro
“I am a firm proponent of the fact that children need to see themselves in fantasy. They need to know that they exist in the whimsical, that they exist in magic. That they are worthy of the crown.” – Anika Noni Rose
Anika Noni Rose, the woman who brought Princess Tiana to life in Disney’s Princess and the Frog, sent Halle Bailey and Yara Shahidi some praise for landing their roles in Disney’s upcoming live-action films The Little Mermaid and Peter Pan & Wendy.
“I am a firm proponent of the fact that children need to see themselves in fantasy. They need to know that they exist in the whimsical, that they exist in magic. That they are worthy of the crown,” she said to Shadow And Act’s Trey Mangum. “It’s really important that they know that. It’s important that we see ourselves that way and it’s important that our children’s peers get to see them that way because it changes the DNA in children in the way that they are able to move through the world and it changes the way that their peers expect to see them.”
Rose broke ground by giving the world Disney’s first Black princess, Bailey and Shahidi follow in her footsteps taking on iconic and beloved roles of Ariel (Bailey, pictured above) and Tinker Bell (Shahidi, pictured below).
“It is my deep hope that it allows children who see us within their fantasy–whether it’s our children or other children–expect to see us in all facets of life, and that is how it should be, because we are in all facets of life, and we can be in all facets of life,” she continued.
Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid is scheduled to begin filming within the coming weeks, and Disney’s Peter Pan and Wendy is still in pre-production and casting. We at Inside the Magic will continue to update our readers when more information from each project comes to light.
Are you excited to see Halle Bailey in The Little Mermaid and Yara Shahidi in Peter Pan and Wendy? Let us know in the comments!
