I haven't yet seen this show, but some members have, so I thought a thread for the topic would be a good idea. Mostly I'm going by pictures and info I find on the internet. These were the first images I found: She must really like hugging people. Let's introduce her to Olaf. I especially like the one where she picks up Sofia. Could Elena be a Soldadera? Or perhaps inspired by the historical reference? It's a complicated concept to explain, but simple version, it means Female Soldier. Avalor isn't located on a real world continent is it? Some of the notes I've seen place it in South America, but I didn't think Disney located their productions in actual real world places, they just make their own version of them.

Elena of Avalor was just made available in my iTunes store today. But I am confused, because I can't find Elena and the Secret of Avalor anywhere in the store. From the information obtained, it appears to be an independent special, not part of this series or Sofia the First. I am going to wait for the special to be made available before watching the series, because I want to see how it all starts. I am amused by the description of the first episode: First Day of RuleOn the day Elena officially becomes Crown Princess, she must rescue her sister Isabel from aboard a missing ship. It's the first episode and already Isabel is getting into trouble. She certainly didn't waste any time! The Jaquins have me a fair bit puzzled by how they fly: Their legs move as though they are still running on the ground. Realistically, this would increase their wind resistance and make it harder for them to fly as they'd have to exert more effort with their wings to move forward. They should pull their legs close to the body to minimize the resistance. See Toothless here for how they should actually be flying:

The most common flight capable animal in Enchancia is flying horses: I'm not sure how a flying horse would tuck their legs in for flight and they've never shown them to do this in the show. The Enchancia treasure vault has Griffin guards: These were most likely used to make the Jaquins, as they have a similar body shape. And the aforementioned flying elephant:

Apparently in Sofia's realm universe whatever ALL magical creatures com from a place of magic which is a realm of several islands
Because Sofia has become the storykeeper making sure that ALL(if not most) stories have a happy endings (hence why Disney adaptations end happily almost always)
Basically they can fly and walk/run at the same time Flying Unicorns are featured in the story The Mystic Islands (Yes I KNOW the term is now Alicorn) along with flying humans called wing walkers
Just watched the Mystic Isles now worth a look though at times contrived Mulan Ming Na has a brief role

I'm still trying to work out the rules of what exists where. Whether Sofia the First exists on a planet inhabited by all Disney Princesses or if it's an independent dimension with the power of the amulet summoning the Princesses from their own realm. The only clue offered so far is that after Jasmine assists Sofia, she simply walks away instead of being teleported back to where she came from. If she's leaving in such a mundane method, it implies that she can simply just travel home to Agrabah via traditional methods of travel.
Winter does refer to having knowledge of Elsa's snow powers, although given she's unaware that Elsa is now a Queen means her information isn't current. So that might be a second hint that Arendelle exists in the same place, if the information was obtained just by passing it from one person to another until it reached Winter.
The movie still hasn't been released yet, so I don't know if Sofia how travels to Avalor. If she goes by boat or coach, then it means that Avalor is on the same planet as Enchancia.
I am wondering if they had the plan to make Elena way back when Sofia the First started. Or just they just make the amulet's name into the name of Elena's country without planning to do so?

When Sofia premiered she was touted by someone at Disney as Latina the reaction to that statement was
WTF? (not by me)
This came from the fact that her "Natural" father was in their "WORLD" A Spainard
I think Elana is a response to forementioned statement The below the Equator references are QUITE massive in the show the only thing worse was Sally Bollywood being Hindu/Indian

The Secret of Avalor movie was finally shown on Disney Junior channel here. The Enchancian Royal family travel to Avalor by sailing vessel. Sofia was spinning the globe too fast for me to see the exact geographical distance, but it looks like these countries are on the opposite sides of the planet. Did Sofia get to keep the powers she earned from the amulet? She transforms into a mermaid, but then takes the amulet off while in mermaid form and doesn't transform back. And after Elena gets released, she uses her shrinking power. I was expecting a sideplot about Elena having to go on some heroic quest to get the sceptre to defeat the evil sorceress after her attempt to use the wand failed, but it didn't happen. She didn't get the sceptre until her coronation ceremony in the first episode of the series (long after defeating the sorceress). I don't know what the sceptre does yet, the only thing it did was gemstone glow. I also discovered why I couldn't find any screenshots of Isabel with Sofia, Amber and James. Because there aren't any. She doesn't have any interaction with the Enchancian Heirs. It would be nice if they could do a crossover episode based on that premise. Like have Elena visit Enchancia, bring Isabel and have a whole episode of hijinks with Sofia and the other Enchancian children. I'd love it if they could work in an exchange student subplot, have Isabel temporarily join Royal Prep Academy. Armando seems genuinely confused that Elena is asking his opinion instead of making decisions on her own. I assume this is because the sorceress ruled by making edicts and expecting absolute obedience. Guitars appearing from offscreen: By Royal Decree, 2 guitar carriers are required to follow the Crown Princess and her grandfather around at all times in case they decide to have an impromptu jam session. I'm very suspicious of Esteban. The movie states he betrayed Avalor to stay in power when the sorceress took over. Then he does some fairly underhanded tricks to make Elena look bad when her first visitor of state arrives. I really don't trust him, let's hope he's just devious and not actually treacherous.

Esteban is THAT shows Cedric
The Soceress by the way was voiced by Jane Fonda
It was nice to see Roland do something other then barking orders
I recently had to scale back my cable services so I have to depend HEAVILY on you tube to watch programs now so I am not as up to date with many programs Many shows are live streaming so I could catch up on some Nick shows Maybe Disney will do the same
Last Sofia I saw was a pirate themed ep Amber seemed to be reverting to her old ways there (kinda disapointing)
Also Elana competes with somone essentially known as the Pink Princess (They are about the same age) only saw clips there Lots of Tangles ever after stuff at a recent TRU visit but not so much Ariel HOWEVER On group shots of Princesses new shots of her as mermaid and human

I wonder if Naomi and her family came from a seafaring nation and settled in Avalor. Since her father is the Harbormaster, it would make sense that they hired a sailor, captain or sea navigator from another country for this role. I could only find two villianesses from the show: OrizabaCarla DelgagoThe first one was identified as the primary enemy of Avalor. I didn't know Jenna Ortega was the voice of Isabel. I thought she only did live action, because the only role I knew her is as Harley Diaz. Is it intentional that both characters she plays for Disney are inventors? Given that Aimee Carrero and Jenna are both either Spanish or Mexican, I wonder if they were hired to give their roles cultural authenticity. Does it help in acting if your natural accent/speaking patterns are similar to those of the character you are portraying? I can never think of Jane Fonda without remembering 80s exercise videos and legwarmers.

Live Action Elena at Disney Park: I've watched every episode up to Party of a Lifetime. It appears this show was intended to be standalone and exclude the concept of interacting with other Disney franchises, since the only nations Elena deals with are ones specifically created for the show. Aside from the crossover special preluding the series, there's only been one reference to Sofia's show and it's an obscure one. In Captain Turner's Return, there is a line "clear as the water of Merroway Sea at dawn". Merroway Cove is featured in two episodes of Sofia the First, so it is highly likely that the sea and the cove are in the same place. By the way, both those episodes are about merpeople. There was an obvious reference to Frozen though, Olivia asks Mateo if "he'd like to build a snowman" and then clarifies "but not the magical kind". Definitely a reference to Olaf and Anna's song on this topic! In All Heated Up, they used a word I haven't been able to define by using translation software. The keep saying monfuego, but I couldn't find a definition of mon. Fuego means fire. My theory is that it's mountain fire or loosely translated, volcano. In the episode Spirit Monkey Business, the voice of Bobo sounded very familiar, the actor's primary role is Plagg in Miraculous Ladybug. Like Plagg, Bobo is a mischievous animal guide. I also found it amusing that Orizaba and Hawkmoth are both moth themed villains, although that most likely wasn't intentional.
