I'm involved in a musical theatre cabaret show and this month's theme is on the word "Together", so I thought what a perfect fit "In Harmony" from TLM the TV Series would be as one of my solo picks for the cabaret!
I'm doing this version sung by the wonderful Mara Davi (Broadway actress from A Chorus Line, Dames at Sea, 42nd St- phenomenal dancer, incredible vocalist) for Laura Osnes's Broadway Princess Party, as arranged by Ben Rauhala (although I'm arranging and writing my own piano part. It'll be very similar, but not the exact same, plus I've included some musical allusions and little motifs of "Part of Your World", "Under the Sea", and "Kiss the Girl" that can be heard in the piano part).
Here's the video that inspired me to take on this project:
She does some awesome harmonizing with the audience on the words "love is love is love is love is love", which I LOOOOOVE! <3
Hopefully our cabaret will be filmed, I'd love to share my version of this wonderful song with all of you especially!

Congratulations on another live performance!
Are there legal issues with recording the performance? Like say, if a sibling or parent brings a recording camera to capture the moment for your youtube channel, will that be permitted?

Congratulations on another live performance! Are there legal issues with recording the performance? Like say, if a sibling or parent brings a recording camera to capture the moment for your youtube channel, will that be permitted? Since I bought the lead sheet (sheet music with the chords of the song and the melody) from Musicnotes, with the purchase of any sheet music on that site comes the performance rights, and with the help of the lead sheet I've written the actual piano part all myself anyway. I believe it would be permitted based on that alone. My other solo I'm singing is Somewhere from West Side Story, and I'm also a part of several duo or group pieces with the rest of the soloists in the cabaret- Sisters from White Christmas, The New World from Songs for a New World, and as a fun finale number we're all doing We're All in This Together from High School Musical. And for all of these we've bought the music from Musicnotes, so no issue there! I'm hoping to have all my numbers filmed, especially In Harmony since it's a song I love so much and it's pretty rare to hear it performed live.

As regards the legal rights, I was more thinking about the venue's policies. There might be a rule that any performances performed inhouse are considered the intellectual property of the director/theatre/production company and as such, permission must be sought for digital recording/duplication/uploading.

yougottaloveariel I remember you telling me that in another thread, very cool! It's a very sweet song and Jodi sings it so well, that must've been fantastic! buckmana Our event is run through the venue directly I think, or at least I'm aware that we have some sort of special arrangement that makes it all possible to be performed and recorded, I believe there are videos that exist of other performances during previous cabarets (this is a monthly show with a different theme and different performers each time and but the same general organizers). Generally we stick to songs strictly of the musical theatre canon but the music director liked the song and my arrangement so much that he made an exception for me to perform it! I like it because it's not often you get to hear songs from the TV series performed live, and I grew up listening to these songs and want to share them with everyone. It'll be a fun time!

I look forward to seeing the video of the performance if one can be made. And it's nice to hear the director allowed you to bend the rules to follow your passion.
Yes, it is disappointing that the tv series songs don't have much presence in the entertainment awareness spectrum. I always looked forward to seeing what new song would be introduced each episode.

Here's the video, take a listen! It was so much fun to put together, I actually wrote the piano part myself based on what I heard from the original version in the TLM tv series and from the version in Broadway Princess Party. I'd really appreciate it if you sent lots of love your way to the video and shared it with other TLM-loving friends! ❤️

It's nice to see you took the effort to perform a song from the tv series. Hopefully you can get the opportunity to perform more of them in the future. Where did the other backup performers come from? Are they friends or were they local talent who showed up for the show? I assume one was a backup singer, based on the shifting around of the microphone during and after the performance. I didn't see the piano referenced, so I assume it was offscreen somewhere. My theory is that it was beside the guitar player. I was curious to see find out if Little Evil ever had a duet with Ariel, but it appears he did not. That would have been an interesting performance piece to see if he had. I was thinking about this because In Harmony is connected to Evil Manta, but I don't think he ever sang with or at Ariel. Evil Lullaby is the only song I can recall him singing.

It was such a joy to bring this song to life, and surprisingly a couple audience members came up to me after the show thanking me for the nostalgia because they too grew up with TLM the TV Series! I remember specifically there was one guy who told me he knew all the words and was singing along, that meant a lot! The back-up vocalist was another soloist in the show, and the performers and musicians are all local talent from Minneapolis. I sang with her on the opening and finale group numbers (A New World from Songs for a New World and We're All in This Together from High School Musical) and she sang a couple solos and a duet. I sang two solos, In Harmony and another, and also a duet with another performer, besides the two big group numbers. The piano was on the far right (well, stage left, but audience right) and it was a really cool white baby grand piano!
