They just released a new story update for Kingdom Hearts Unchained and it took me about a minute to work out which Disney animated movie they were referencing: Isn't this Aurora? Why does it call her Briar Rose? I've read that name translations into other languages aren't exact, that a "close enough" simile has to be found, which doesn't make sense when translated back into English. Since most of the people who work on this game franchise aren't English speakers, I'm wondering if they know our familiar characters by other names? And this does cause translation errors when writing the english language documentation. For example, two days ago, there was a documentation update for this game that was completely incomprehensible, it was all in Asiatic calligraphy and computer error code. What it said I have no idea, since it was that messed up. I'm assuming this was not intentional, that the code commands for translation failed and it showed me the documentation in the original untranslated text.

buckmana yougottaloveariel Yup, the fairies call her Briar Rose. In some versions of the original Sleeping Beauty fairytale, her name is Briar Rose and not Aurora (her name is Aurora in the ballet upon which the Disney film is loosely based). As the narrator says at the beginning while telling the story straight from the storybook: "And so for sixteen long years the whereabouts of the princess remained a mystery, while deep in the forest, in a woodcutter's cottage, the good fairies carried out their well-laid plan. Living like mortals, they had reared the child as their own and called her Briar Rose." Her real name as a princess is Princess Aurora, but the fairies raised her as Briar Rose and she knew nothing about her real life as a princess until her 16th birthday. It's in the script, and it's the name she probably more closely associates herself with, so it's fair game to be used in canon. But I have definitely noticed translation errors before in international media. Some Disney films when released internationally have entirely different names for some characters that better fit the language in which they're being dubbed.
