Disney Confirms ‘Little Mermaid’ Show Isn’t Leaving Hollywood Studios

If you have been paying attention to the Disney news rumor mill this week, you have definitely heard that Voyage of the Little Mermaid at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has had it’s signage removed.

The Disney community was quick to jump to the idea that the stage show was not returning to the Disney theme park. Since Hollywood Studios re-opened, Voyage of the Little Mermaid has not taken a voyage at all! We haven’t heard Ariel belt “Part of your World” from her rock, seen the neon fish performance of ‘Under the Sea’, or had those neon lasers shining all over us.

Disney has confirmed with Inside The Magic that the billboard is:

“…simply in the process of being refreshed and is expected to return within the next week.”

The attraction has seen little updates during its 30-year reign and it makes total sense that Disney is taking this time to refurbish the sign. It’s important to note that although we heard rumors, Disney never said that the show was closing and since the sign is coming back, we can infer that the show will as well! Although we do not have a specific date for its return, since the sign is coming back we have no reason to believe the show won’t as well. Of course, things are always changing at Disney and we will keep you updated on any official change!

So it is looking like we are not a ‘Poor Unfortunate Soul’ and we are indeed going to get to continue to go ‘Under The Sea’ once more.

UPDATE: Disney Issues Statement That “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” Billboard Removal at Hollywood Studios is Scheduled Maintenance, Not Indication of Show’s Closure

After a nearly 30-year run at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” remains dark after the theme park shutdown. Just yesterday, the show’s billboard was removed from the side of the theater inside the Animation Courtyard. Today, Disney has released a statement regarding the status of said billboard.



In response to our post on the removal of the billboards, Disney has responded stating that it “…is simply in the process of being refreshed and is expected to return within the next week.” For now, it seems the removal was more along the lines of scheduled maintenance as opposed to a sign of the show’s permanent closure.





Here’s what the facade of the attraction looked like up until recently, with the billboard still intact despite rumors of a permanent closure.

Two other billboards on the side of the “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” building were also removed, however these were merely ads for Star Wars films and not related to the attraction. It’s likely we’ll see new billboards in place here as well in the coming week.

I really hope they stick to their word on this! Seeing the news change so rapidly back and forth about the status of Voyage has been stressful! I know a lot of cast members were recently laid off, which is unbelievably heartbreaking and something I can relate to as a fellow theme park performer laid off due to the pandemic, but the actor’s union behind Voyage is really fighting hard for their cast members to stay on board. It would be such a shame to see this attraction go, but I am glad that it is getting refurbished and I know Voyage will be back better than ever before!
and maybe hopefully I’ll get to audition for Ariel, as her role in Voyage is my dream role at Walt Disney World! 🧜🏻‍♀️💜
