Little Mermaid 2023 Disney+ streaming
As 2023 moves closer to its ending months, Disney put one of its latest releases, The Little Mermaid, front and center as it makes its way to a streaming release on Disney+.
Although Disney's The Little Mermaid just barely churned out a profit at the box office, fans reacted mostly favorably to the latest live-action remake as it followed other similar outings like 2019's Aladdin and 2017's Beauty and the Beast.
Making a fairly extensive run of over 100 days on the big screen and already being available on some digital platforms for purchase, the film's Disney+ release is a hot topic as fans look forward to viewing The Little Mermaid on a streaming platform.
The Little Mermaid Shines in Disney+ Ad Disney+ shared a new "Next on Disney+" video on YouTube celebrating The Little Mermaid's upcoming release on the streaming platform, with its streaming debut coming on September 6.

This release will also come with special bonus content, including a performance of the newly-written "Impossible Child" song by Javier Bardem as King Triton. This song was written by iconic Disney songwriter/composer Alan Menken with the lyrics developed by Moana and Hamilton composer Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Also included in the bonus features are deeper looks into "Passing the Dinglehopper" and the newly revamped "Under the Sea," with song breakdowns for each one being featured.
The Little Mermaid was the main highlight in this 2-minute-20-second video, which also showcased September's upcoming episodes of Star Wars' Ahsoka and the upcoming release of Marvel Studios' animated I Am Groot Season 2.
The full video can be seen below:
here
The live-action remake is one of half a dozen projects coming from Disney's Little Mermaid legacy, starting off with the 1989 animated original film, a sing-along edition, and its 1998 straight-to-video sequel, The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea.
On top of that is the 2019 live-action performance of the movie titled The Little Mermaid Live!, featuring Moana star Auli'i Cravalho as Ariel, John Stamos as Chef Louis, and Queen Latifah as Ursula.
Will The Little Mermaid Succeed on Disney+? Considering how long it took for The Little Mermaid to finally reach Disney+, anticipation is certainly building for fans who want to partake in all of the underwater magic for another round or even a first for some.
This comes just over a month after Disney released nine full minutes of the movie online for free, putting this live-action remake into the spotlight for fans who had already seen the film or those who were waiting for it to be more accessible.
Critics and fans alike certainly gave The Little Mermaid plenty of praise, with early screenings churning out positive results, and it wound up earning a 94% Audience Meter score on Rotten Tomatoes as well.
And considering how highly it ranks for many viewers amongst Disney's other live-action remakes, it should gain new life in the streaming world as Disney continues to push forward with new stories as well.
The Little Mermaid will be available to stream on Disney+ on Wednesday, September 6.

A huge raft of content is about to land on Disney+ in the coming weeks and months, with The Little Mermaid premiering on the streaming service today. And if Ariel still isnât a big enough pull, then itâs also launched a limited time deal to lure in subscribers.
Between 6 September and 20 September, new and returning subscribers can get Disney+ for just ÂŁ1.99 per month. The discounted subscription lasts for three months, so youâll only start paying the full ÂŁ7.99 subscription fee once your three months is up, though this might cost even more in a couple of months.
The Little Mermaid isnât the only new bit of content streaming on the platform. The new Star Wars series Ahsoka started streaming late last month, and season two of Welcome to Wrexham begins streaming on 13 September.
The ÂŁ1.99 Disney+ deal comes as the streaming service looks to shake up its pricing structure in November. Last month, the company announced that it was introducing three pricing tiers.
The company is introducing a ÂŁ4.99 ad-supported tier, as well as turning the ÂŁ7.99 subscription into a standard tier that will only work on two devices. There will be a new ÂŁ10.99 premium tier, which is essentially the current ÂŁ7.99 package allowing four devices to stream at once, with support for 4K and Dolby Atmos. Disney+: Was ÂŁ7.99 per month, now ÂŁ1.99 per month for three months, Disneyplus.com (Disney+)
Disney+ has slashed the price of the streaming service for a limited time. Between now and 20 September, youâll be able to subscribe for just ÂŁ1.99 per month. Thatâs a saving of around ÂŁ18. The offer is available to both new and returning customers.
Once your three months is up, youâll be automatically switched over to the ÂŁ10.99 premium tier that is being introduced in November. You can always downgrade your subscription once the price change comes into effect or cancel your subscription completely.
Disney+ is home to hundreds of new and classic Disney and Pixar films, almost all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and the entire Star Wars catalogue. As well as comedies such as Only Murders in the Building, How I Met Your Mother, Bobâs Burgers and all 33 seasons of The Simpsons.

Posted on Last updated: September 6, 2023
Sharing is caring!
Your kids might be asking if they can see this one. The star power is there! But can they? What is the true age rating of The Little Mermaid (2023)? Can your kids watch this one? Weâre covering the 7 big things parents need to know about the age rating for The Little Mermaid in this parents guide.
About The Little Mermaid (2023)
âThe Little Mermaidâ is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure.
The youngest of King Tritonâs daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea and, while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric.
While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land but ultimately places her life â and her fatherâs crown â in jeopardy.

Age Rating of The Little Mermaid (2023): Parents Guide (7 Big Things)
Can your kids watch this one? What is the age rating of The Little Mermaid (2023)?
This parentâs guide will help you decide if your family can handle the seven big issues with movies and shows: mature topics, gore, violence, language, sex, romance, and nudity. Weâll also give the age rating and age-appropriate recommendations.
Age rating of THE LITTLE MERMAID 2023. Scuttle, flounder and ariel looking at a fork. Language
Thereâs really very little language in the movie to be concerned about.
No curse words or starts of curse words in this one!
Your kids will hear unkind things being said about other people/mermaids by way of name calling like:
brat idiot stupid fool
parents guide to The Little Mermaid 2023. Age rating. Halle Bailey as Ariel and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric sit in a boat across from each other. Age Rating of The Little Mermaid (2023): Is It Safe For Teens When It Comes To Sex, Romance, and Nudity?
There is a romance in this story and if you are familiar with the original animated version, itâs very similar.
The biggest difference is that Arielâs spell is cast a little differently and she doesnât remember that she has to try to kiss the boy.
There are hugs, flirtings, and one chaste kiss between a man and a woman.
There is implied nudity as Ariel shows up on a fishing boat naked when she gets her legs, but no body parts are shown. Sheâs given a sack dress to wear to cover her nudity.
Thereâs nothing to be concerned about in this scene as itâs not sexualized at all.

Violence and Gore: Is The Little Mermaid (2023) Too Scary For Kids Under 8?
This is the biggest concern for parents trying to decide if they should take their kids to see The Little Mermaid.
While the same intense scenes are found in the animation version, itâs a little different seeing it in Live Action.
The shark that chases Flounder and Ariel may be too intense for some kids.
Ursula has some rather wicked and powerful moments that could also cause some children to want to avert their eyes or crawl in your lap. Sheâs a lot!
Her lair is also creepy and spooky and the eels provide a solid jump scare.
A character is electrocuted and presumed dead. Another one almost drowns.
The final battle scene is long and extreme.
Photosensitivity warning: there are scenes that could trigger some people with bright lights and flashes.
We suggest skipping 3D if your kids has any issues with loud noises, scary moments, or flashing lights.

Is The Little Mermaid (2023) Ok For Kids: Mature Topics
Families are complicated! And thatâs certainly true in The Little Mermaid (2023).
Ursula and Triton take sibling rivalry to a new level and Triton and Ariel of course butt heads.
The conflict in the movie is simple: parents and kids donât always see things the same way.
The generational fight between them causes some extreme choices to be made in The Little Mermaid.
There are also some bigger discussions and points made about intermixing the land and sea people.
Overall, we donât think the message get too bogged down and should be simple enough for younger children to follow along without being too mature for an elementary school crowd.
One note: there are multiple mentions of a parentâs death, so while not a huge focus of the movie, it does play a part in the plot.

The Little Mermaid (2023)Age Rating: What Ages Can Really Watch This One?
The Little Mermaid (2023) is rated PG for action and scary images.
Parents Guide: Is The Little Mermaid (2023) Appropriate For Kids Under 8?
As always, you know your children best.
We think kids as young as 4 could probably enjoy this movie, as long as the above concerns about intensity/realism donât apply to them.

If they donât have a problem with the animated version, they are likely good to go here. Just be prepared that seeing live-action fights and shark chases may be a bit too much for your younger kids!
One note: this movie is much longer than the animated version clocking in at 2 hours and 15 minutes. This could affect your youngest children being able to sit through the whole thing.
Be sure to check out this post to know when you can pee during The Little Mermaid (2023).

Will Little Mermaid's Disney+ Success Translate to Sequel?
The Little Mermaid's upcoming Disney+ premiere will not only include the whole movie but will also be jam-packed with exciting special features.
The movie's streaming release will feature bonus content, including Javier Bardem's performance of "Impossible Child," a special featurette titled "Passing the Dinglehopper" and a song breakdown of "Under the Sea."
It remains to be seen if a sequel to The Little Mermaid will be made. Based on estimates, the film will likely earn little profit, but the final numbers would depend on its home release sales.
The Little Mermaid lead star Halle Bailey previously played coy about returning for a sequel, but she did mention her love for the animated follow-up The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea.
Still, The Little Mermaid's potential high viewership numbers on Disney+ could grab the attention of Disney's top brass to greenlight a sequel eventually.
The Little Mermaid will start streaming on Disney+ on Wednesday, September 6.

Posted by: Eva Miller September 18, 2023

Disney⊠we told you this would happen!
In a move that likely shocked Disney, Elemental has become the most-watched movie premier on the Disney+ platform. Within its first five days of streaming on Disney+, Elemental earned over 26.4 million views.
While this feat is impressive on its own, it also means that the film has surpassed the streams for the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. During The Little Mermaidâs first five days of streaming, it only had 16 million views.
While this news may be shocking to some due to the immense marketing gap between the two films, many Disney fans saw this coming from miles away.
The Public Speaks⊠But Does Disney Listen?
In recent years, Disney fans have been smothered by a plethora of live-action remakes of iconic Disney animated features. From The Lion King to Peter Pan, Cinderella to Aladdin, it seems like there is no end in sight for the live-action craze. However, many fans are growing tired of this trend and are yearning for something new and original.

â Scott Gustin (@scottgustin) September 18, 2023
One of the main reasons why fans are becoming fatigued with Disneyâs live-action remakes is the lack of originality. While these films may bring nostalgia and a sense of familiarity, they often fail to bring anything truly new to the table. Fans are craving fresh stories and characters that will captivate their imaginations rather than rehashing the same old tales.
Another concerning aspect is that these remakes often fall short compared to the original animated films. The live-action version of The Lion King, for example, received mixed reviews from both critics and fans. Many felt that it lacked the magic and emotion of the original, with the photorealistic animals appearing lifeless and devoid of expression. It turns out that fans are not yearning to see a nature planet document with musical songs.
With More Remakes Down the Pipeline, How Can We Change Disneyâs Mind?
Despite the complaints from fans, Disney still is continuing its live-action projects. Most recently, criticism arose over the new live-action Snow White being made. Many fans feel that the remake is sacrificing important elements of the original, which is confusing considering the filmâs intention is to be a re-make. Fans think The Little Mermaid could make half a billion

However, while Disney may not always listen to fans, they do take notice of numbers. For a film like Elemental, which has a smaller production and marketing budget than The Little Mermaid, to surpass a star-studded project like The Little Mermaid on streams is certainly going to get Disneyâs attention. While neither film had massive success at the theatres, Elementalâs success on streaming is a win for fans hoping for more original stories.
With the upcoming original tale, Wish, coming soon, fans will once again be given an opportunity to show Disney the kind of content they want to see.

The sea is a magical place with known and mysterious creatures. Over the years, these creatures have been reimagined in movies and shows with their own stories and adventures. Now Disney+ Hotstar brings one such story with the live-action reimagining of the studioâs Oscar-winning animated musical classic âThe Little Mermaidâ. Directed by Rob Marshall with a screenplay by David Magee and features Halle Berry as the mesmerising mermaid Ariel.
If youâve yet not seen it, get ready to meet Arielâs friends and foes. Here is the incredibly talented cast of âThe Little Mermaidâ. Have a look:
Ariel Played By Halle Berry Ariel, an 18-year-old mermaid princess played by Halle Berry, is curious, daring, and passionate about discovering the world on land. She strikes a pact with the sea witch Ursula to fulfil her ambition of turning human and meeting Prince Eric. However, Ariel must sacrifice everything to be with the one she loves since the arrangement has a cost.
Ursula Played By Melissa Mccarthy King Triton exiled his sister, Ursula, played by two-time Academy Award nominee Melissa McCarthy, for her crimes. She is a vengeful sea witch who is half-woman and half-octopus who plots her retaliation and envisions herself one day dominating the sea as Tritonâs sister.
Prince Eric Played By Jonah Hauer-King Prince Eric, played by Jonah Hauer-King, is a 21-year-old human prince who is adventurous, compassionate, and in love with a mermaid princess.
Sebastian Played By Daveed Digs Voiced by Tony Award-winner Daveed Diggs, Sebastian is a crab who works as King Tritonâs counsellor. He is often forced to serve as Arielâs guardian so he can report back to the king, and while cantankerous and anxiety-ridden, deep down he has a sod spot for Ariel.
King Triton Played By Javier Bardem Atlanticaâs king and Arielâs father is King Trito, played by Oscar-winning Spanish actor Javier Bardem. He is a strong and moral leader who adores his daughter. He is, however, very strict and protective, which frequently causes problems for Ariel.
Scuttle Played By Awkwafina Ariel relies on Scuttle, voiced by rapper and comedian Awkwafina, who is a neurotic, dim-witted seabird who thinks of herself as an expert on all things human, and upon whom Ariel relies as a source of information. While clueless most of the time, she is a loyal friend to Ariel.
Tune into Disney+ Hotstar for fantastic underwater adventures with âThe Little Mermaidâ.
