A Visit From the Past

Ariel sat at her vanity combing her hair while Eric sat in the bed reading. “Hey, Eric. Is there anything you haven’t told me that I would need to know? Like, any girlfriends that came before me? You don’t have to tell me. Just curious.” she asked gently. “Where to start with the girlfriends?” he said quietly to himself. “Hmm? I couldn’t hear you. What did you say?” she asked. "Oh...um... actually, yes. I did have other girlfriends before you." he said nervously. He remembered a time when he was very, very close to getting married to a girl named Amelia and tried to avoid telling Ariel. His problem was that he looked guilty whenever he tried not to tell her something. He didn't know how or why she was so good at making him tell, but she was. "Eric, are you hiding something from me?" she asked with a smile. "Hiding something? Why would I have something to hide? I mean do I ever,yes. How do you do that?" he asked. "It's a secret. Now, tell me all about it." she said. "Well...okay. Here it goes."

~FLASHBACK~

Sixteen year old Eric was outside of his castle with his girlfriend Amelia. It was a cold night so Eric took off his jacket and put it on Amelia. He took her over to an Italian restaurant and then to a giant water fountain. He disappeared for one minute and then reappeared knealing down infront of Amelia with a small box in his hands. Then he asked, "Amelia, you have been with me for so much of my life. I'm sorry it took me so long to ask you this but, Amelia, will you marry me?" Amelia screamed and jumped on Eric. "Oh, Eric. Of course I will!" she said.
It was a warm day at the wedding. All of Amelia's family and friends were there as were Eric's. When it was time for Amelia to say "I do", she said, "I...I...I'm sorry. I can't. I just can't. Eric, I love you more than anything in the whole world. And I want to marry you, I really do. But, I can't. And if I tell you why, both our lives will be in danger." Before she could run off, he gently grabbed her hand and said, "Wait, Amelia, what do you mean?" "I can't tell you. But If I could tell you I would. Let's just say say it's one of those, I'd tell you but then I'd have to kill you things. Only they would kill me instead of you." she tried to explain. "But wait! Amelia, who is they? I don't understand." he said curiously. "You don't need to understand, Eric. Please, trust me. If I marry you then someone will literally kill both of us! I'm sorry! I can't be with you anymore!" And without another word, she ran off in tears. Eric started to go after her but thought it was a bad idea. "Goobye, Amelia. I'll never forget you." he whispered to himself as he picked up the flowers she was carrying.

~END FLASHBACK~

"Now you know." he said. "Oh." she said quietly. On the outside it didn't seem like it but on the inside she was very jealous of Amelia. She just didn't want Eric to know. Neither one said any more, Ariel crawled back to her side of the bed, and they both went to sleep.

Chapter 2
The next morning, Eric and Ariel went into the town to watch the children do a Christmas play. After that was over, they had to go help some of the villagers settle a problem they were having over whose apple it was. (I don't know. They were the 'sorta out there' villagers. Go figure.) After that, they went back to the castle so Ariel was alone for awhile. But before she could leave the room Eric was in, his cellphone rang. (Yes, I gave him a cell. He answered the phone and was in total shock at who answered it. "Amelia? Is it really you? But how? Where? You're in town right now? You want to come by tomorrow? Okay, I'll see you tommorrow. Bye." he said surprisingly as he hung up the phone. "Who was that?" Ariel asked dully already knowing the answer. "Oh, that was Amelia. After all these years." he said with a gleeful smile. "Mmhmm." she said cleverly. "Sure." she said. "Wait a minute. You aren't jealous, are you?" he asked her. "Oh, no. Why would I be jealous? Is there a reason for me to be jealous because I sure don't see one." she said sarcastically. "Ariel, there's nothing to be jealous of. You're my wife. Why would I be in love with someone other than you?" He sighed deeply and tried to reason with her. "Look ,she's a nice girl. We're only friends. But trust me, you'll love her." he said assuringly. "You sure do." she said snappily as she left him alone. She sat on her bed thinking about the past years from when they were married to that day. She finally fell asleep on top of the covers. When Eric walked in, she was shivering, so he put her under the blankets, kissed her on the cheek, and fell asleep too.
The next morning, there was a knock on the door and to Ariel's non-surprise, it was Amelia. Eric got up from where he was sitting at the table to go over and give her a hug. "It's been a long time, Eric." she said with Ariel mocking her behind her back. Eric gave her a look that made her stop. Amelia walked over to the table and saw Ariel sitting there with a smile on her face that was so fake, it looked real. "Oh, and who's this? Your maid?" Amelia asked well knowing it was his wife. "No, I'm his wife. It's very nice to meet you." she said. In her mind she thought~I'd rather be talking to a dead yak. And she called me a maid! She's in for it all right!~. "Well, now that we all know eachother, Amelia, would you like a tour of the castle?" Eric offered. "Are you coming Ariel?" he asked. "Oh. No, that's all right. I have stuff to do anyway. Go ahead. It was nice to meet you Amelia." she said forcing out a cough where you could barely hear her saying the word "not" while she coughed. After she was sure they were gone, she went up the back stairs to spy on them. They were looking at one of the bedrooms. "Wow! It's been so long since I've seen all this." Amelia said with a smile."Yeah." Eric said dazingly. A little voice in his head told him to snap out of it. Amelia could tell her plan was working as they walked back into the hallway. "Eric, I don't really want to bring this up if you don't want me to but now I can tell you about why I ran away from our wedding. These people were threatening to kill both of us if I married you because there leader wanted to marry me. So when I ran away I had to go with them or else. But I escaped and had to hide out on different islands until I heard the news that they were dead. So I came back here." she said. "Well, I'm glad you're back anyway." he said as they leaned in closer and closer until their lips touched together. They didn't even notice Ariel standing right at the staircase watching the whole thing. She ran downstairs crying and out into the garden. Eric and Amelia looked over to the staircase and Amelia said, "Eric, I hope I didn't do anything. Look, I have to go. I'm sorry. Maybe I'll see you around. Bye." she said walking down the stairs laughing quietly to herself. Eric just walked back into the room, sat down, and buried his face in his hands. "Your Majesty? What's wrong?" Carlotta asked. Ariel said nothing but only ran out in the garden and started crying on a granite bench. "No. No, it can't be true. Eric, doesn't love her. No, he doesn't. Oh, who am I kidding? He loves her more than me." A little voice in her head said, "Pull yourself together. You aren't a weak little princess that needs to be rescued. You're sronger than this!"

Chapter 3
She had been out there for seven hours and everyone wondered what had happened to her.
The strangest part is that, it didn't seem like Carlotta told any of them where she had gone so none had thought to look in the garden. She felt that Eric was given an option and picked Amelia over her. So she decided that she would run away if he wanted Amelia because she only wanted him to be happy. So she wrote a note saying:
Dear Eric,
I hope you have a happy life with Amelia. Yes, I did see you kiss her. You had an option of either her or me and I guess you chose her. I'm only leaving because number1: I just want you to be happy, and number 2: because you can only have one wife. I'll probably never see you again so this is my goodbye.
Love,
Ariel
She left it on the granite bench with a locket that he gave her on their first Christmas together. She first went to a secret passage she had discovered that no one knew about. Not even Eric knew. It was filled with gold and jewels, so she grabbed as much as she could and started her journey.
She had been traveling for she didn't know how long now and decided to take a break and rest. When she woke up, she was not in the same spot where she fell asleep, but in a palace that looked familiar. It wasn't her own castle. It was somewhat like Aurora's. In fact it was Aurora's. Ariel sat up, looked around, and saw Aurora sitting in a chair spinning a new scarf. "Oh, Ariel. You're awake. Are you alright?" Aurora asked. "Yeah, I'm fine. But, how'd I get here? I remember falling asleep somewhere else." Ariel said sleepily. "Philip said he went out to the market and found you lying against a wall. How on earth did you get out there?" Aurora asked. "I was traveling, yeah, now I remember. Oh, Aurora, yesterday was so terrible. You see..." Ariel went on telling Aurora about everything that had happened the day before. "Oh, you poor thing. You must have been frozen stiff. And the nerve of Eric too. Why if Philip ever did that I'd...Wait a minute. Do you think there's something like that he didn't tell me about. Hmmmm. Well, anyway, you're more than welcome to stay with us for a few days." Aurora said. "Are you sure Aurora? I wouldn't want to bother any of you. But if you say so. But only for two days. Then I really have to leave. But you mean to tell me I walked all the way to your kingdom? Wow." Ariel said. "If you're hungry, breakfast is downstairs." Aurora said. "And Aurora, if Eric calls asking where I am, can you please not tell him?" she asked. "Promise." Aurora agreed.
The next two days came and went. The second night, Ariel was ready to go. "Oh, Aurora, Philip, thank you so much. You both saved my life. I owe you so much." Ariel said. "No, Ariel. It's okay. You don't have to give us anything." Aurora said. "Are you sure?" Ariel asked. "We're positive. You be safe now. Goodbye." Aurora said as she waved goodbye. So Ariel walked off with food, water, money, and some new clothes. That night wasn't so cold. But it was still cold. Ariel had gotten on a train and walked for two more hours until she found a small cottage. She went in and saw a hayloft. She climbed up the ladder and made a bed out of the hay. She looked out the window and saw a tiny but very bright star shining in the sky. "Oh, Eric. Why did you have to do this?" she said sadly. Meanwhile, back at the castle, Eric could not sleep at all. He was to worried about Ariel. "Oh, Ariel, I'm sorry. I should never have done it. In fact, I don't blame you for running away. I wish I could tell you, but...that's impossible."

Ariel: Star light, star bright. First star I
see tonight. I wish I may, I wish I
might, have this wish I wish I tonight.

I wish, that I could see, if he really
does miss me. I wish that I could tell
him, how much I really love him. But,

Ariel: Oh life can be so tough.
Eric: Life can be tough.

Ariel: I sometimes feel I've had enough.
But then I see his smile, I feel that
I can last a while...longer.

I'm hoping and I pray, that things won't
always stay this way.

Eric: They can't always stay this way.


Ariel: If I could see his smile, but only for
a little while.

( Same time.)
Eric: Oh, her smile, is like the sun shining
bright.

Ariel: Then that would give me strength, to
carry on and get back to him.

( Same time.)
Eric: I miss her so much. I wish she were here.

Ariel: I wish there was a way.

Eric: But now I know, that's impossible.
Ariel: But now I know, that's impossible.

Ariel: But little star shining bright,



Eric: Oh, I wish with all my might,

Ariel: That I can see his face, here tonight.
Eric: That I can see her face, here tonight.

They both finished singing and went to sleep. While they were asleep, a blue light started flying towards Ariel and into the window. It soon turned into the blue fairy. "Ariel, your wish has been granted." she said as she magically transported Ariel back to the castle. Eric woke up and looked around thinking he heard something. He got out of bed and looked in the hallway to see Ariel standing there smiling at him. She ran over to him and hugged him as tight as she could. "Oh, Eric, I'm sorry." she said with a tear running down her cheek. "Ariel, don't be. You have no reason to apologize. I should apologize to you. Everything you said was true. I was just to blind to see it. I have to do something to make it up to you. Anything you want I'll give it to you." he said. "Eric, as long as I'm here with you, then that's enough for me." Ariel said giving him a kiss.
Meanwhile, Amelia was watching the whole thing through her magic mirror. "That little brat came back, eh? Not for long. I'll get Eric sooner or later." she said.

It's awesome. Would of been better if they broke up and Ariel got together with Jack Skellington. Great couple. I mean, c'mon! So much in common! Well, besides her being alive and him dead... but what I see that is greatly in common is there love and curiosity with other worlds... They both even sang about their sadness... (Part of your World/ Jack's Lament)....
Egh, I doubt anyone will understand... da** pretty boy Eric!

cool, but I don't get why Amelia's so evil, you should explain that a bit. I like the story, but if you want a little tip, when you have a conversation make each line of the characters be on another line, it makes it easier to read and it gives the conversation a bit more fluidity.

Other than that it's a cool story, you could try writting more. my fave part is actually the song.

Once again their love is tested. By now, Eric should be rather weary of magically inclined women.

The story was really good. Touching, and at times had moments of honest humor. One of my favorite scenes was when Ariel fell asleep shivering on the bed, and Eric tucked her in. I love tender moments like that!

it's a nice story, i really like the song, cause i wasn't expecting one...i would need a lot more info on amelia and her problem! I don't get how she fits in and the how the other bad guys died, i'd love more info on the stay at auroras, and the ending needs an umph, but im looking at it as if it were supposed to be a book...i love it as a forum fan fic! Yay! You go girl! If you add to it, let me know!!
