I haven't RP'ed in so long; the Disney fandom makes me want to take it up again. XD
Because keeping track of more than one kid in that movie would've been murder. Blaaargh, TLM2!
I was thinking along those lines in Zoology today, actually! It's weird what happens when you're watching starfish fight in time-lapse...
I'm sure there are loads of theories you could put to it. -switches into Zoologist mode- If you want to get really scientific about that stuff, it's technically a miracle that Ariel had a child in the first place. Chromosomes don't line up correctly if the organisms are too different, and your genes don't change no matter how your body does. So, unless Triton worked up some real magic, Melody would be some weird hybrid-mermaid (what the heck does that look like?) or wouldn't exist at all.
But, y'know, that's what Disney magic is for...
Geez, talk about over-analysis. Oh well, it was fun to theorize. XD Gotta love biology sometimes.
Ignoring TLM2 as much as possible...
It's really difficult to give both of them a credible reason for not having more kids. Perhaps they felt pressured by the kingdom to have a son, or at least more children--that might drive the stubborn couple to go against it. I know when I'm pressured to do something, it becomes the last item on the "to-do list".

Naw, I wish they would have given them more XD
Here are the 'kids' me and Jenna made;
Melody- Most of her personality was established in TLM 2. She's kinda tomboyish, she's curious, and adventurous. But we decided that there was never a wall put around the castle, so Melody probably got into trouble other ways. Melody is the oldest, so she is naturally protective of her younger siblings, but that wont stop them from all going on adventures together!
Mia- She is dreamy and playful, and she has a wonderfully bright imagination like Ariel. She loves to dress up and be girly, and just doesn't understand why her sister hates it so much! Although she isn't as outgoing and bold as her mother is, she seems to have inherited a teensy bit of her Grandpa Triton's temper. She can be very sassy and stubborn when she's mad!
Megan-She would kind of take her mom's place in being the "odd one out" of her family. Her personality would take more after her Grandpa Antono and her Aunt Aquata (or Attina?). She'd be the most logical and pratical of the four, not as into dreaming and adventures and would ocasionally butt-heads with Melody (Melody= Peter and Michelle=Susan Pevensie. Yes, Mandy you have inspired me! ). She'd be more intersted in reading and logic, but will go along with the adventures with her siblings, wheather to keep Mia and Miles at bay or because curiousity will get the better of her. Of course be very opinionated (would you expect anything different from Ariel and Eric's child? ) Will fight with the notion that Melody is bossy, Mia is an airhead and Miles' is a pest, but will ultimatley love them very much. And will sometimes feel bed that she perhaps doesn't fit into her family and wonders if there is something wrong with her, but of course her mom and dad will love and think she's wonderful, and have no problem with the way she is, although will have their struggles as they will with the other three.
Miles- Deffinately more piratey than a sailor, a little rebelious. Parlty since he feels lke he's lving in his dad's shadow, so he wants to be known as his own person. He loves the sea like his other siblings. He does have tender heart and would go to any lengths to help someone, though he really isn't wanting to be seen as a prince. He's the youngest and naturally a little spoiled. His sisters will drive him crazy at times, but he really loves them. He has a special bond with Melody (she's the oldest, and the least girly of her sisters) He's also really clever and pretty quick when to comes to getting out of trouble. He loves his mom and dad and won't ever deny it.
I don't think it would have been a huge stretch for Ariel to have Melody. I mean she was made into a genuine human, I'd imagine with all the working fuctions. Plus merpeople imho, are mammals since Ariel does have breasts and a navel, which are pretty clear indications that a child would grow inside her.
As stubborn as Ariel and Eric can be; I think if it was something that they truly wanted they wouldn't care about other opinions, my thoughts anyway, lol

Aww, I love Miles. He kind of reminds me of Jim Hawkins with a bit of Eric in him.
Yay, it seems like no one takes that into account! Hehe, now I don't have to go on a never-ending rant. Grrrrr! Mermaids don't spawn, darn it!
Aaanyway, now that I'm going off topic...
I guess the verdict is that TLM2 should be tossed out the window and Ariel and Eric should've had more kids?
This question could probably go in every direction, but where/when do you think Eric got Max?

Oh, lord.... Please don't tell me you read that **creepy** oneshot about Ariel and Eric's wedding nght? 0_o Eww, augh, are you talking about the one that's one of the first items on Google? Like, the one I've been trying to rid from my memory for months? Dear God, I sent my friends an angry/disturbed e-mail saying how my childhood was ruined forever. Brain bleach, please? I may need several gallons... I think Max may have been adopted, or perhaps he was a stray. He seems pretty young--no older than six or so--but I suppose he and Eric bonded pretty quickly. Eric seems like the type who's good with animals.

Can you give me some of that bleach??? I know some people thought it was funny, but I just found it creepy. Not to mention OOC. My lastest story is kind of a response to that XD LOL Yeah. I can picture Max maybe saving Eric, without Eric realizing it and im litterally following him home XD

My personal theory is that Max was Eric's last gift from his parents/father/mother before they/he/she died.
'Cause I'm a little in love with the angst.
In other news I'm flying home tomorrow!

Welcome back in advance!
Aww, I love the "Max was a gift from his parents" theory too. It makes it all the more special that they've bonded so well.
I could imagine him either getting/finding Max right after his parents died or well after the fact; Max would become another part of the "surrogate family" of Carlotta and Grimsby. ^^
Perhaps Max was the runt/oddball/obnoxious puppy of the "royal purebred ohmigosh pompous sheepdogs" who took an immediate liking to Eric. After all, we know that dog can practically read Eric's mind.

And now, I response to the last like four things discussed in this thread:
So, yay for you coming home WickedElphie!
Yes, I agree that Ariel and Eric would have had more children than just Melody. Personally, I think Eric would have wanted a large family, being an only child, and Ariel, after being one of seven would have wanted a smaller one. I think they'd meet somewhere in the middle having three kids. Yes, Melody would be oldest, then a little girl that's quiet and contemplative like her father. She'd have a dry sense of humor and would be terribly interested in ships, making a really special connection with Eric. Then they'd have a son that was just really close to Eric since they'd be the only two boys. The girls would absolutely adore their brother and he'd be little bit of a smart alec and would get in trouble with Melody.
As for Max, I've always thought that he came along as an "I'm sorry your parents died" present. Not the most sensitive way to put it, but still...
And yes, I too have read that story. Well, I didn't read it, I got to a certain part that I won't repeat and had to stop reading. There are just some things you cannot do with Disney characters, I'm sorry!
But, I just have to say, fridamoonbeam, the comment you have about your avatar is absolutely perfect! I can totally imagine Eric getting a tattoo of Ariel and her absolutely despising it! That's hilarious!

Huzzah! Elphie's back! I actually had in one of my older deals, that Eric (age 11) ran away after his mom died partly blaming his father. While he was trying to duck the castle guards whom were looking for him. He hid in an alley. He eventually fell asleep; when he did Max as a puppy came wandering out the butcher shop, where (cliche coming up!) he had a not so nice owner. He sees Eric and starts to siff around him. Then he hides, two men come down the alley. They stumble across a sleeping Eric, they recognize him and think they'd grab him. An easy pay day since the queen just died. But the problem is Eric can identify them, so they figure they'll just stab his eyes out. Max in the mean time comes out and bites one of the goons on the rear. The guy is freaking out telling the other guy to get the dog off him. He grabs something to get the puppy off. Only Max jumps down before he could be hit. Leaving the goon number one smacking goon two with the board. Goon two gets p***** off at the other for being an idiot, then grabs board to smack him. They get into a fight and end up taking it to the streets where they BOTH get arrested for dis-orderly conduct. Max in the mean time, is watching out for the little human, who's a really heavy sleeper, and since he has such good instincs; he knows the human is very sad and lonely. Well Max was lonely too. Max could watch out for him! XD I now think Eric would have been younger when his mama died but I loved the idea of Max saving Eric and him not being awarre of it XD 0_O My thoughts exactaly LOL! I know that's what I thought when I first saw that picture. I, of course thought it was hot. But I can imagine Ariel would freak out. Especially since in the actual picture in the tattoo; Ariel has no shells on and it says something a little suggestive.... Which would be a VERY funny one-shot revolving around that tattoo. XD

It must be a rule for Disney animals to bite people on the bum when their companions are in trouble. I don't think Mushu was very fond of that. He can go complain to Rajah and Max. XD If my boyfriend/fiancé/husband got a tattoo like that (though I can't imagine what it would say), I would steal a trident and zap him on the spot. Or at least find the thickest theatre makeup ever and dump it on his arm. Ariel would probably do the same, only in a much less violent way... It totally reminds me of this. XD

Ahahaha. It's one of the things Max and Rajah do best. XD And well, Mushu didn't have much of a mouth for biting.
Okay, I have to write a one shot on that subject. It's TOO funny. And I love that picture Zavi. Poor Eric looks so utterly clueless XD

I totally remember cracking up when I first saw the picture. The little comics addressing all the issues after "Happily Ever After" are so funny, especially for the most Disney-ish movies like Enchanted. XD
Another question: What was Eric like as a kid or his early/mid teens?
I have to tread carefully while answering this, as Eric is the central character in my fanfic and there's a ton of important exposition. I swear, you guys will get to read it eventually!
I've always loved the idea that Eric was a mischievous child--maybe not as much as Ariel, but he'd get into trouble more than the average young boy. He'd be outdoors whenever he could, especially around/in the ocean. I can see him walking alone or with Max all the time; his contemplativeness probably grew from those experiences.
In my fanfic, Eric says that he used to go to the lagoon all the time (when and why, I can't tell you). I thought it made "Kiss the Girl" all the more special because that setting meant so much to him. It seems like a secluded place where a person like Eric would want to think things over.

This is terribly off topic, but I just saw an old clip of House of Mouse and it reminded me that Ariel and Eric never sat together in that show! Ariel was always at a table with Sebastian and Flounder and Eric was always at a table alone with Max!
I don't get it Disney: You put them together in the movie and then you act like they don't know each other in any other media you produce! I don't get it! It's like Ariel and Eric are the Brittany and K-Fed of Disney and everyone's just waiting for them to break up so that Ariel can re-establish her underwater street cred!
Like I said, off topic rant but it had to be said!

That's actually not quite true. There are a few times where Ariel is with Eric. Notably in the Christmas at the House of Mouse DVD Ariel is in human form with her pink dress with Eric in his formal outfit.
In one episode of HOM called "Mickey and the Culture Clash" Ariel in her tour of the kingdom dress and Eric in his usual outfit at a table together are in the background of a shot. The camera shifts so you can't see them and when it shifts back Ariel is suddenly a mermaid, but Eric is still there. Cracked me up the first time I noticed it.
As to Baby!Eric's personality i would see him as a sweet generally well-behaved kid who has a tendency to find trouble by accident. I also think he'd have a real longing for a parental figure that was never quite fulfilled. I feel like he'd be a little clingy towards those he thought might fill that void only to be gently rebuffed for reasons of class.

I remember that HOM too! I laughed so hard that Ariel was suddenly a mermaid, and neither her nor Eric had any sort of reaction to it. XD
Hmm, that's a really interesting question about Eric's life as a kid. I need to think more about it. One thing I think is that he may have not made a of of friends among the nobles and prefered company with the sailors.

Okay. Question for the masses; After I'm done with 'Things We Don't Planis For' should I write an Eric/Belle AU story? (containing no Ariel or Adam)
Partly because I love Eric's character and I think he doesn't get the literative respect he should and this would might be an interesting way to show he can stand on his own.

Hmm...Honestly I'm not sure a traditional full length fic with that pairing would hold my interest. Not that you wouldn't do a great job, I''m just not sure it would be my cup of tea.
Personally I'd prefer a series of short self-contained "scenes" if anything. That way you wouldn't have to focus on a central plot and could just explore the dynamic from a lot of different angles.
Of course it's ultimatly your decision.
Oh-About Things We Don't plan For: How's the next chapter coming along?
