From HN Entertainment: Disney’s Live-Action ‘The Little Mermaid’ Confirmed To Shoot At Pinewood Studios UK By Christopher Marc -October 29, 20190
HN Entertainment has been able to confirm that Disney’s next animation to live-action adaptation The Little Mermaid will indeed primarily shooting at Pinewood Studios UK in Buckinghamshire, England (just outside of London).
Something we had assumed for months.
This would see both Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness and The Little Mermaid use those stages next year.
Director Rob Marshall has reportedly been using the facility to screen-test actors for the role of Prince Eric.
In Disney’s beguiling animated romp, rebellious 16-year-old mermaid Ariel is fascinated with life on land. On one of her visits to the surface, which are forbidden by her controlling father, King Triton, she falls for a human prince. Determined to be with her new love, Ariel makes a dangerous deal with the sea witch Ursula to become human for three days. But when plans go awry for the star-crossed lovers, the king must make the ultimate sacrifice for his daughter.
Here is what the cast looks like so far.
Halle Bailey as Princess Ariel Melissa McCarthy as Ursula The Sea Witch Javier Bardem as King Triton Awkwafina as Scuttle Daveed Diggs as Sebastian The Crab Jacob Tremblay as Flounder
Previous live-action Disney productions shot at Pinewood include Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Mary Poppins Returns, Dumbo, The Nutcracker and The Four Realms, Cinderella, Muppets Most Wanted, Maleficent, and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.
Emma Stone’s Cruella, a prequel to 101 Dalmations, is currently filming at Shepperton Studios in Surrey, England.
The most recent productions shot at the facility include Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, No Time To Die, Black Widow, and Eternals.
Disney has had some stellar success in 2018 with the releases of The Lion King and Aladdin both surpassing the billion-dollar mark. They’re not slowing down anytime soon as they have live-action adaptations of Pinocchio (Robert Zemeicks in talks to direct) and Snow White (from Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb) along with a sequel to The Jungle Book from director Jon Favreau.
A live-action version of Mulan is also coming but is reportedly undergoing four months’ worth of reshoots, which could mean a delay in the release date.
The studio has yet to give The Little Mermaid an official release date.

It is curious they haven't gotten a Prince Eric yet when all the lesser roles have been filled.
Hopefully that just means they're taking their time to choose the best actor to play Eric.

Yes, I think they search the right Eric for the movie! From DigitalSpy: Harry Styles opens up about turning down Prince Eric role in The Little Mermaid remake He's not heading 'Under The Sea'.
BY JOE ANDERTON 02/11/2019
The Walt Disney Company has been signing up some absolutely huge names to star in its recent spate of live-action remakes, and, for a while, it looked like Harry Styles could have been one of those people.
The (former?) One Direction star was at one time linked to the role of Prince Eric in the remake of fan-favourite The Little Mermaid and while it seems like a pretty good role to build his acting career (and he wouldn't even need to spend much time underwater!), Harry has turned down the role. But why?
Speaking to Capital FM earlier in the week, the 'Sign of the Times' singer said: "They shoot for so long, and I want to tour next year."
Not only did he reveal why he turned down the role, but he also inadvertently let slip that he's planning a solo tour for next year, which we have no doubt is even more exciting for fans.
Harry kicked off his second album campaign at the beginning of October by releasing the single 'Lights Up', which hit the top 3 in the UK Singles Charts.
The star recently revealed that he once injured himself while high on magic mushrooms, and that he considers it a "fond memory".

I honestly think Graham Phillips from the ABC special would be a great choice for live action Eric as well.

Eric has been cast! Congrats to Jonah Hauer-King deadline.com/2019/11/little-mermaid-jonah-hauer-king-wins-roles-of-prince-eric-1202784503/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitterHe's 24, British (maybe Prince Eric will speak with a British accent in the live action as well? Quite a possibility!), he recently played Laurie in the PBS adaptation of Little Women. Here's some pictures: ![](https://www.thewrap.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Jonah-Hauer-King-Prince-Eric-1.jpg) ![](https://www.famousbirthdays.com/faces/hauer-king-jonah-image.jpg) ![](https://hips.hearstapps.com/digitalspyuk.cdnds.net/17/51/1513945930-little-women-jonah-hauer-king.jpg?resize=480:*) ![](http://www.thetimes.co.uk/imageserver/image/methode%2Fsundaytimes%2Fprod%2Fweb%2Fbin%2F15b0167a-deb7-11e9-b45c-5f9a8625c8c9.jpg?crop=2667%2C1500%2C0%2C0&resize=685) I don't know a lot about him, but he definitely looks like a Prince Eric to me! He recently screen-tested with Halle in London, so they must have good chemistry as well. Here's a video of his singing! He also sings "My Funny Valentine" in a film called Postcards from London, trying to find a clip of it at the moment! Guys....I think I'm in love with this casting! 🙈😍

Thanks for the news report.
Looks like they're greenlit to go into production properly now, if all the cast roles are filled.
I wonder though, could they have filmed some of the movie already? Specifically, the scenes that didn't involve Eric, although that wouldn't be many of them. For most of those scenes, they'd still need Ariel's sisters though.
And now I'm wondering how the casting search for those sisters is going. Could Haille's real-life sister cameo as one of them?
I'm hoping they're not going to make Ariel an only child though to cut down on merpeople effects, that might make the production less interesting in my personal opinion.

buckmana I did hear a rumor about the possible exclusion of the sisters, which really doesn't work with the story. I mean, she's "the little mermaid" for a reason! It would be so sad if Triton was like "you're my only daughter" to justify how protective he is. It's doable, but I don't like it. I was hoping that they'd go the route of TLM3 and the musical and include a reference to Ariel being the most like her mother among all her sisters. Though, there are rumors the mother backstory may be included as well? So far, I don't think they've written enough screenplay to get things filmed yet. They're still fairly early into the pre-production stage. Songs are still being written, I don't think the script is finished, costumes are still being worked on, there's still members of the cast yet to be cast, etc. They're gonna be in rehearsal for a while before getting anything filmed. I'm speculating that filming will happen towards mid-end of 2020, with rehearsals beginning once everything else is set in stone (with some wiggle room I'm sure, as planned stuff may change as it's being rehearsed and filmed, you never know!). I suppose they might start with the land scenes first, as I'd imagine they'd be easiest.

Disney got me all hyped for Graham, darn 😂 Well, he looks the part. He actually reminds me a bit of 80s Gilbert Blythe in Anne of Green Gables. I’m just really hoping they make him do an American accent. Princess Jasmine got to have an American accent in the Aladdin remake, and I’d really love it if Eric did too. I can’t take posh Prince Eric seriously.

I always thought that Triton was overprotective of Ariel precisely because she was the youngest, that he had confidence in all of her elder sisters to look after themselves safely. Also, Ariel tended to wander around outside the castle a lot, whereas her sisters usually stayed close to home, so another reason to more more worried about her.
Arista is my favorite of all the sisters, mostly because of the animated episode Beached, where we got to see her acting as a distinct character rather then just one of the "background sisters". That was a fun episode in my opinion, one of my favorites.
Random thought, what if they put Urchin in the live action movie? It's unlikely, but it would be interesting if he was added.
So what would they call the movie if she doesn't have any sisters? The Mermaid? Although realistically, I'm expecting them to keep the name as it was/is, just so people know it's a remake of the original.
It's highly likely that Hallie is being fitted for her mermaid tail right now, it takes a long time to make those, hence why it's the first task on the list. Always assuming they don't add her tail via CGI that is. I'd much rather prefer she had a real life costume tail then a computer generated one. And they're most likely working on Triton's tail too.

From CNet: Disney's live-action Little Mermaid finally gets its Prince Eric And after all that Harry Styles hype, it's someone we've never heard of. Corinne Reichert November 13, 2019 3:42 PM PST
It's been a minute, but Disney has finally cast the role of Prince Eric three months after Harry Styles turned down the live-action Little Mermaid movie gig. Ariel's seafaring prince will be played by Jonah Hauer-King, CNET sister site ET reported Tuesday night.
The 24-year-old actor had two screen tests to get the role, Variety reported. He previously starred in PBS' Little Women TV series alongside Stranger Things' Maya Hawke, according to IMDb.
When Styles declined to be the Eric to Halle Bailey's Ariel, the internet began debating who could be the prince in Disney's upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. We even put together a list of our Prince Eric hopefuls, headlined by Dev Patel, Gavin Leatherwood, Kota Ibushi, Chace Crawford, Joe Keery and John Cena.
Disney confirmed the casting of Bailey, of the R&B duo Chloe x Halle, in July. "After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence and substance -- plus a glorious singing voice -- all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role," the movie's director Rob Marshall, of Mary Poppins Returns, said at the time.
The remake of 1989's under-the-sea adventure will also star comedian and actress Melissa McCarthy as villain Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Daveed Diggs as singing crab Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder the nervous fish and Awkwafina as Scuttle the seagull who helps Ariel misidentify her thingamabobs, whozits and whatzits.
It will include songs from the original animated movie by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, in addition to new songs by Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Production is expected to begin in early 2020. Disney has yet to release a trailer or confirm a release date, but it does have three live-action movies scheduled for March, July and October 2021, and another four slated for 2022.

From BuzzFeedNews: ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT Disney Cast A Newcomer As Prince Eric In The Live-Action Version Of "The Little Mermaid" Newcomer Jonah Hauer-King will officially play the iconic prince.
Michael Blackmon
Posted on November 13, 2019, at 9:58 a.m. ET
Disney has finally found the actor who will portray Prince Eric in its live-action version of the 1989 classic The Little Mermaid.
Jonah Hauer-King, a relative newcomer who has starred in the films The Last Photograph and A Dog's Way Home, will play the beloved prince who enchants Ariel the mermaid, who will be portrayed by Halle Bailey.
According to Variety, Hauer-King had a screen test for the role as recently as last week.
Pop star Harry Styles was long rumored to be the person who would snag the role, but he ultimately passed.
Styles told the Face in September that there were discussions about his potential involvement, but he ultimately wanted to focus on his music for the time being.
"But everyone involved in it was amazing," the Dunkirk star told the outlet, "so I think it’s going to be great. I’ll enjoy watching it, I’m sure.”
Styles may be right about that, as the film is shaping up to be quite the event.
With Bailey, whose angelic voice contributes to one half of the singing duo Chloe X Halle, and Hauer-King's handsome looks, the live-action version seems to be on the right track in terms of giving die-hard fans of the original film what they want.
In addition to those two, Oscar-nominated actor Melissa McCarthy has been approached to play Ursula the sea witch, while Jacob Tremblay (Room) and Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) have signed on to play Flounder and Scuttle, respectively.
Hamilton star Daveed Diggs may be playing Sebastian the crab and Javier Bardem could be playing Ariel's overprotective father, King Triton.
The new film will be directed by Rob Marshall and will feature the original music from the animated version, including the songs by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, as well as new songs by Menken (music) and Lin Manuel-Miranda of Hamilton fame (lyrics).
Production on The Little Mermaid will begin in early 2020.

From DigitalSpy: Disney's The Little Mermaid remake finally finds its Prince Eric Ariel, it's time to meet your groom. BY ADAM SILVERSTEIN 13/11/2019
Disney's live-action remake of The Little Mermaid has finally found its Prince Eric.
After Harry Styles turned down the role earlier this year, another Brit has been cast instead: up-and-coming actor Jonah Hauer-King.
Jonah Hauer-King attends The IMDb Studio Presented By Intuit QuickBooks at Toronto 2019 RICH POLK/GETTY IMAGES FOR IMDB Although this will be the 24-year-old's biggest acting part yet, you may remember him as Laurie in the BBC's Little Women miniseries in 2017. He also played Harry in the BBC's WWII drama World on Fire, which finished its first season at the weekend.
According to Deadline, Hauer-King ended up beating Krypton's Cameron Cuffe to the role of Eric.
In case you forgot, Prince Eric is the human hunk rescued by mermaid Ariel when he almost drowns at sea and – spoiler warning! – the two eventually end up getting married. So, along with Halle Bailey as Ariel and Hauer-King's Eric, the cast is pretty star-studded.
Melissa McCarthy will play the witch Ursula, Javier Bardem is King Triton, 13-year-old Room star Jacob Tremblay voices Flounder, Crazy Rich Asians actress Awkwafina is playing Scuttle and Broadway's Hamilton star Daveed Diggs has been cast as Sebastian the crab.
The remake is being directed by Mary Poppins Returns' Rob Marshall, while star of that movie (and Hamilton) Lin-Manuel Miranda is working with composer Alan Menken on some new songs for the movie's soundtrack.
Disney is yet to announce a release date for The Little Mermaid, but it's expected to start production early next year.
