What do you think of Halle Berry as Ursula?

I always did wonder if Ariana Grande was good at changing her vocal range. In Sam&Cat, her voice is higher pitched then it was when she played the exact same character on Victorious. So maybe if she has this talent, then she could modify her vocal speech patterns to sound more like Ariel.

buckmana I think she very well could, we all know she does a killer Celine Dion among other impressions, but she's really focused her career towards her pop music and I just don't think she could take a break to do the film. I do think she might release a pop cover of Kiss The Girl or something like that, kinda like for Beauty and the Beast her cover with John Legend. veu oooh if she can sing it, Halle Berry could be a great Ursula!

Also something I just thought of, do you guys think this live action version will include Vanessa? The musical wrote her out of the plot since it'd probably be difficult to make that transition work on stage (or for other reasons, I'm sure, but that's what I thought anyway), but with a film pretty much anything's possible. If so I would LOVE to see who they pick to play her! So many options! Mila Kunis, Megan Fox, Gal Gadot, Jessica Biel, there's so many more to choose from! This would be a really cool cameo moment for Sierra Boggess though, I would love to see her!

I had been wondering what Ariana was doing since Sam&Cat ended, since I didn't see any regular acting roles on her resume. I guess it depends if she wants to get back into acting. A movie might be an easier choice though, because unless they make a sequel, it would only be a once off requirement and then the actress hired could go back to whatever they were doing before.
At the moment, this is I how I imagine they would do Ursula for live action: They'd cast the actress to play Vanessa and then most likely use the same actress for Ursula, just in a padded bodysuit or as a CGI reference standin (to get the voice and body mannerisms references synced to the video). From a performer's point of view, whoever plays Ariel could do those scenes better if they're responding to Ursula's actress standing right in front of them delivering the lines on stage then if there was nobody there at all.

It is my favorite part of the animated movie when Ursula changes into her human form! Fingers crossed that they will keep Vanessa in this new version.

From HuffingtonPost: Lindsay Lohan Wants To Be Ariel In ‘The Little Mermaid’ With Meryl Streep As Ursula The Lawyer.com spokeswoman wrote on Instagram about her “dream” role with Streep.
When Lindsay Lohan isn’t speaking with a questionable accent, she’s usually posting a head-scratcher on social media ― and her Monday night Instagram activity was no exception.
The “Mean Girls” star and Mykonos club owner shared an image of Ariel and Ursula from Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” with the words, “My dream Role with #MerylStreep” emblazoned above them. She also included the image in her Instagram story.
Previously, Streep and Lohan starred together in 2006′s “A Prairie Home Companion.”
Streep told W magazine about Lohan at the time that “Lindsay is completely, visibly living in front of the camera” and that she reminded the Oscar winner of Cher as a young performer.
“She’s in command of the art form,” Streep said of Lohan’s chops. “Whatever acting is, I don’t know what it is, she’s in command of it. I think she could do anything she puts her mind to.”
Streep would certainly make an aces Ursula, but Lohan’s reputation suggests she might be a bit tougher to manage on set than Streep’s characterization implies. Lohan has been cited as difficult to work with, and the Disney Channel didn’t ask her back for “Life Size 2” with Tyra Banks.
Recently, Lohan, who’s a spokeswoman for Lawyer.com, has been getting slammed for her comments about the Me Too movement.
“I’m going to really hate myself for saying this, but I think by women speaking against all these things, it makes them look weak when they are very strong women,” Lohan said to British newspaper The Times.
She added later that while she’s “very supportive of women,” she doesn’t like “attention-seekers” or, as The Times put it, “trial by social media.” She has since apologized.
At any rate, we’d be curious to see this come to life son... uh, Disney? You in?

From People: Lindsay Lohan Wants the Lead Role in The Little Mermaid Opposite Meryl Streep: 'My Dream Role'
Lindsay Lohan wouldn’t mind playing Ariel in The Little Mermaid — if one particular actress is involved, that is.
The actress, 32, shared a screenshot from the famous 1989 Disney film of Ariel and Ursula on Instagram Monday in which she tagged Disney Studios and expressed her desire to play the lead role opposite Meryl Streep.
“My dream role with #merylstreep,” Lohan wrote in the photo.
While a project is not in the works between the two actresses, it’s safe to say it’s almost everyone’s dream in Hollywood to work with Streep.
Cher opened up about playing Streep’s mother in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again during PEOPLE’s exclusive Facebook live talk in July.
Despite their three-year age gap, Cher said, “That doesn’t make any difference. I was thrilled to death, and it was so silly. It was great fun, and I love her, so it was perfect.”
Meanwhile, Lohan has continued to work primarily in the Middle East and Greece. The actress announced her reality TV show for MTV in July called Lohan Beach Club which began shooting in Greece.
“I’ve joined the MTV family, and I’m Lindsay Lohan,” Lohan said in a clip, which premiered on Good Morning America Monday. “Get ready!”
The Sick Note actress received backlash earlier this month after making remarks about the #MeToo movement during an interview with The Times.
“You make it a real thing by making it a police report,” she said. “I’m going to really hate myself for saying this, but I think by women speaking against these things, it makes them look weak when they are very strong women.”
Lohan continued, “You have these girls who come out, who don’t even know who they are, who do it for the attention. That is taking away from the fact that it happened.”
Days later, the actress apologized in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE saying, “I would like to unreservedly apologize for any hurt and distress caused by a quote in a recent interview with The Times.”
“The quote solely related to my hope that a handful of false testimonies out of a tsunami of heroic voices do not serve to dilute the importance of the #MeToo movement, and all of us who champion it,” she continued. “However, I have since learned how statements like mine are seen as hurtful, which was never my intent. I’m sorry for any pain I may have caused.”
“I feel very strongly about the #MeToo movement and have the utmost respect and admiration for the women brave enough to come forward and speak out about their experiences. Their testimony has served to protect those who can’t speak, and give strength to those who have struggled to have their voices heard.”

I don't think Disney will cast Lindsay Lohan as Ariel. At the very least she mayyyy be given a cameo role, but nothing more than that. They've been trying to distance themselves from her since she has been a source of controversy lately. Also, I think Disney will either try to stick to casting Ariel authentically by the age she states to be in the film (16) or by the ages Ariel on Broadway and Ariel at the Disney Parks tend to be (between 16-27, maybe some in later twenties and rarely early thirties if they still can pass as the character and haven’t aged out visually). In general, they will just look to cast really youthful looking actresses for her and for the sisters, and Lindsay is on the upper part of that age range at 32 and imo is no longer baring that youthful resemblance to Ariel that Disney would desire.

These are unconfirmed rumors, but it's been going around that Zendaya has been offered the role of Ariel. Whether she accepts or not, and whether she was legit offered in the first place, we have yet to find out! I think she would be a good pick, she has a strong voice and great acting skills and is an excellent dancer and mover. Her last big musical on screen was The Greatest Showman, which I haven't seen but it's completely blown up and was received really well by audiences. Link to The Hashtag Show's report on ZendayaAnd a video here:

I've mostly seen Zendaya in K.C. Undercover as the title/lead character. I don't recall if she did any dancing in that show, but she definitely did a lot of martial arts fighting, which would be an indication she's capable of doing roles that require physical fitness.
She had a guest role in the most recent Spiderman movie as their reimagined version of MJ. Unfortunately, she didn't get made up with MJ's signature red hair or we could have seen a preview of how she might look as Ariel.
I assume she'd still have to do some specialist training for mermaid swimming, if successful in being cast to play Ariel. Mostly to get used to the fin I would speculate.

Little mermaid has always been my favorite. I cannot explain how much I miss shows from the old time. Disney was everything to me but I am glad that Andy Yeatman has made some equally good shows now. I watch it with my kids and love the content.

From Billboard: Why Disney Should Cast Ginger Minj As Ursula In the Live-Action 'Little Mermaid' Remake
8/29/2018 by Patrick Crowley
Disney has talked the talk, but it’s time for Mickey and Co. to sissy that walk
Ever since the film's existence was reported in 2016, Disney fans have been eagerly anticipating casting news regarding the studio's live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. It’s been reported that both Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken -- who composed the score for the 1989 animated classic -- are involved, but rumors have swirled around who will take on the titular role.
The latest actress to be caught up in the buzz is Zendaya, an inspired choice. Not only is the actress a talented singer and dancer (she was runner up on Dancing With the Stars), but her casting would mark another positive step toward diversity and inclusivity in Disney films (and blockbuster films in general) as the biracial star would be tackling a character traditionally portrayed as white.
Yet there’s another role whose casting will make or break the film: Ursula. Embraced by critics as one of Disney’s best villains since her 1989 debut, the sea witch strikes the perfect balance of funny and frightening. Her diabolical anthem, “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” is a standout in Disney’s ever-expanding catalog, and it's been covered by everyone from the Jonas Brothers to goth band Pretty Addicted.
It’s widely known that Ursula’s appearance was inspired by the drag legend Divine. Best known as John Waters’ go-to leading lady in films like Hairspray and Pink Flamingos, Divine -- real name: Glenn Milstead -- inspired the sea witch’s overdrawn eye makeup and bulbous body. Though Milstead passed away before seeing the character, Jeffrey Schwarz, the documentarian who chronicled Milstead’s life in the 2013 film I Am Divine, believes the drag queen would have loved the villain: “He would have wanted to play the part himself.”
So, in 2018, why not cast an actual drag queen in the role? Not only would the move honor the violet-hued villain's queer origin, it would also be a welcome step for the House of Mouse when it comes to LGBTQ inclusion: While the company rolled out rainbow-striped mouse ears just in time to cash in on Pride month, it received a “poor” rating from GLAAD’s annual Vito Russo Test, which studies the presence and portrayals of LGBTQ characters in film. In fact, of all the studios tracked by GLAAD, Walt Disney Studios has the weakest history when it comes to LGBTQ-inclusive films. Disney has talked the talk, but it’s time for Mickey and Co. to sissy that walk.
And we know the perfect queen for the job: Joshua Eads, better known as Ginger Minj.
Minj gained global fans after making it to the top three on RuPaul’s Drag Race’s seventh season in 2015. Throughout her time on the series, she showcased her wit through snappy one-liners and talking-head interviews, practically carrying the notoriously stale season. She even won a Divine-theme acting challenge -- guest-judged by Waters himself -- where she recreated the role of egg-obsessed Edie from Pink Flamingos.
Since her Drag Race debut, Minj has managed to stay in the spotlight. She already has a number of acting credits under her wig and snagged a sizable role alongside Jennifer Aniston in the upcoming music-driven indie comedy Dumplin’.
Minj also has the classic belting voice and theatrical flair required for the role. Not only has she wowed crowds with her take on “Poor Unfortunate Souls” at shows, but her commanding rendition of the La Cage Aux Folles anthem “I Am Who I Am” at the VH1's Trailblazer Honors in 2016 practically serves as an audition for the role.
Drag queens are known for their raunchy humor, but Minj has what it takes to thrive in a family-friendly project. The queen won over 8-year-old drag sensation Lactatia, who called Minj her favorite Drag Race queen. That led to Minj giving Lactatia a stunning drag makeover at New York's DragCon last year. During the transformation, Minj kept her banter with the pint-sized queen PG, but she still enthralled a mostly-adult audience, demonstrating her ability to deliver comedy that entertains both children and grown-ups alike -- a tricky balance that the best Disney movies nail.
Casting a queen in a Disney production would be a major feat for the world of drag, but it’s not entirely a pipe dream. Within the past year, we’ve seen both The Voice and American Idol embrace drag contestants to acclaim. RuPaul’s Drag Race earned 12 Emmy nominations this year, and alums from the show are everywhere. Violet Chachki and Milk are storming the fashion world; Bob the Drag Queen filmed a a comedy special that's available on Amazon. Trixie Mattel saw her folk album One Stone debut at No. 1 on the Heatseekers Chart, winning over fans like Kacey Musgraves in the process. And Alyssa Edwards is about to be everyone’s Netflix binge obsession with her upcoming docuseries, Dancing Queen.
Drag queens have effectively infiltrated every sector of pop culture. There is no reason a blockbuster film should be off limits.

veu yAAAS I would absolutely love to see Ginger Minj as Ursula! Her voice is perfect for Poor Unfortunate Souls and she is a brilliant entertainer! Ursula was born out of inspiration from drag tradition (Divine's signature makeup look and mannerisms certainly made their way into the Ursula we know and love today), so I think it would be absolutely terrific to cast a drag queen as her!

Yes, I agree, but I think they cast a woman for Ursula, but it's also possible that a drag queen could be Ursula and a woman will be Vanessa.
