At the beginning of March this year, Square Enix is inactivating Kingdom Hearts Unchained. I haven't gotten to the end of the current story arc yet, but the current chapter is the Wreck-It Ralph (first movie) area. Unfortunately, that means given production is ceasing, there will be no Atlantica chapter.
And of course, the overarching plot will never finish either, another cliffhanger without falling down to find out what's at the bottom of the ravine, just an eternity of hanging on to the edge.

I wonder what their reasoning was for pulling the plug on KH Unchained, it's really sad to see. I haven't been able to play it and would've loved to, I only got properly into KH a little late as of recently lol, though when I was a kid I would watch people play KH1 & KH2 (I'm most familiar with everything involving Atlantica, of course lol). I'm hoping to get a Switch soon now that Sora has been announced for Super Smash Bros Ultimate and that a bunch of the original games are now available for Switch! But the catch with that is that it's the cloud versions and not downloadable ports, so for regions with slower internet connection it'll be really difficult. I hope someday Square Enix can put out downloadable ports of these games to be able to be played offline on the Switch. This video gives more of an overview of all the latest KH updates from the Nintendo Direct event on October 5th. There is some mention of the final update of Dark Road here as well as some 20th anniversary merch being available and the news about Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix Cloud Version, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue Cloud Version, and Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind being available to stream on the Switch. and the 20th anniversary trailer:

The only thing I can think of is the gameplay became too much Pay2Win. I had a really good collection of Medals (you slot 5 in your keyblade and your battle pet carries the 6th one) to unleash devastating limit break style attacks.
But when I got up to the really high levels, the damage resistance of the enemies had some frustrating negation mechanic. Imagine unleashing a 2million Damage limit break and 99% of it was negated.
I think when the average player realised they had to keep paying real money to get better and better medals, that is when the game died.
